Journalism FAQ
Do I have to major in journalism to be eligible for a Journalism
Scholarship?
No. You may major in any discipline and still receive a Journalism
Scholarship. The sole requirement to qualify for and retain your
Journalism Scholarship award is to participate each semester as
fully-accountable staff member of a student publication (print or
digital).
Should I bring my own camera?
If you have a digital camera, please feel free to bring it with
you. However, several automatic digital cameras will be available
as well.
What if I have an unavoidable conflict on Scholarship Day?
Call the college at 1.800.365.7402 ext 1270. It may be possible
to arrange an alternative date for you to bring your portfolio to
campus and complete the activities.
Will my unfamiliarity with your equipment or software put me
at a disadvantage in competing for a top scholarship award?
Our intent is to minimize the equipment/software factor. Photography,
for example, will be evaluated on composition and creativity in
staging the shot. Photo editing will be limited to such basic functions
as cropping and adjusting brightness and contrast.
Why should I bring my journalism talents to McPherson College?

Our student publications have consistently been rated among the

a substantial list of graduates who have gone on to successful careers
as editors, publishers, reporters, and broadcasters. But we want
