PURPOSE

The purpose of the Alumni Citation of Merit is to recognize lifetime achievement of outstanding McPherson College Alumni.  The McPherson College Alumni Citation of Merit may be granted annually by the College, upon the recommendations of the Alumni Awards Committee and with final approval by the College Board of Trustees.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

A nominee for the Alumni Citation of Merit Award should exhibit two or more of the following criteria:

1. Meritorious achievement and success in a profession.

2. Recognized achievement in and contribution to community and/or area of service.

3. Unusual service and leadership to the church, either at the denominational level and/or ecumenical level.

4. Outstanding service and demonstrated loyalty to the College and the Alumni Association.

Any alumni of the College are eligible to be a nominee for the Citation of Merit Award.  Preference may be given to members celebrating 35 year and up class reunions during Alumni Day.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Young Alumni Award is to recognize achievement and potential for accomplishment of McPherson College young alumni. The McPherson College Young Alumni Award may be granted annually to three individuals by the College, upon recommendation of the Alumni Awards Committee and with final approval by the College Board of Trustees.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

A nominee for the Young Alumni Award should exhibit two or more of the following criteria:

1. Meeting significant challenges in pursuit of professional goals

2. Service to others

3. Service to the Church

4. Alumni participation and support

Any alumni of the College are eligible to be a nominee for the Young Alumni Award. Preference may be given to members celebrating 10 to 30 yearclass reunions during Homecoming weekend.

PURPOSE

This award will be granted annually to a McPherson College graduate from the teacher education program. Nominees may be currently serving as an educator or have retired after many years of service to the profession. The awardee will be invited to participate in and honored with recognition at various campus and homecoming events, such as speaking to various teacher education classes, and a luncheon or reception.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

Candidates for the award must exemplify the qualities identified in the mission statement of the teacher education program. The nominator will provide examples and personal illustrations of the following:

1. Being service-oriented

2. Effectively blending the art & science of teaching

3. Knowing what and how to teach so that all learners can be successful

4. Using best practices to meet the needs of all learners

5. Being collaborative—with students, parents and other educators
