The Quinter "600"
-3rd Annual Bulldog Barbeque Sets Record
Led by local middle schooler Austin Carroll’s 12 hot dogs eaten, the players and spectators at the Quinter/St. Francis high school football game consumed a record 600 hot dogs at the third Annual Bulldog Barbeque sponsored by McPherson College.
This event began three years ago to recognize the over 100 McPherson College alumni and friends living in the Quinter area. With the help of many local Mac College alumni, including Alumni Board members Royce Roesch and Galen Huffman, the Rev. Keith Funk, Irwin Porter, Phil and Ann Stover and current MC Bulldog student Amy Porter, the crew served up the most wieners ever to persons attending the October 6 ball game.
Members of the McPherson College advancement staff, along with President Ron Hovis and wife Robin, took part in the event, which is planned to continue indefinitely.
“This is something we all look forward to each fall,” said MC development director Erik Vogel.
“We get great support for this event from the Quinter community, especially our alumni living out there. We like to say that all roads lead through Quinter, since we have so many MC alumni that come from that area. This event is done as a thank you to Quinter residents for sending so many of their kids to McPherson College over the years.”
In addition to the many McPherson College alumni working in the Quinter school district, St. Francis also employs a couple of Mac grads as well. Long-time educator Carl Werner, MC class of 1963, is the superintendent of schools for USD 297 and Ted Busse, ’92, is an assistant football coach for the St. Francis High School Indians.
Quinter students currently attending McPherson College: Michaela Bird, Callie Coberly, Emily Flora, Lara Lichty, Amy Porter and Jamie Tilton.
The following morning Quinter area alumni and McPherson College administration gathered for a brunch and My MC Campaign meeting at the Q-Inn.
