McPherson College's Jamar Turner drives against Scottie D's Todd Alexander.

Balance appears to be a McPherson College men's basketball trademark.

The Bulldogs, who had five players in double figures in their season opener last week against Haskell, again had five in twin digits Monday when they defeated Scottie D's 82-72 in an exhibition game at the Sport Center.

Brian Hooks led the way with 16 points, while Cody Rierson, Tim Cox and Jordan Carter all had 11. Kenny Romero had 10.

"The offense we're running is more equal opportunity," Mac coach Roger Trimmell said. "It's good to beat those guys, because they've been tough. With them, it's all about shooting and tonight they didn't shoot as well as they normally do."

Carter, a sharpshooting freshman guard, came off the bench to give the Bulldogs a spark, hitting a couple of early treys to help Mac build a 37-29 halftime lead.

Trimmell was concerned about his team's rebounding after the Haskell game, but despite going up against the likes of 6-8 Andy Berlin and 6-6 Ryan Murphy, the Bulldogs were able to hold their own, being edged only 52-50.

A nice surprise was the play of 6-6 Brandon Pitts, who came off the bench for 7 rebounds in just 10 minutes of play.

Murphy scored 28 points to lead Scottie D's, while Josh Alexander had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Berlin also had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. David Byers added 10 points.

The 3-pointer, a staple for Scottie D's, was a curse, as they could hit just 3 of 29.

The Bulldogs are back in action Friday at North Newton in the Bethel Classic. They play Hastings College at 6 p.m., and then play Haskell at 6 p.m. Saturday.
