The following is a list of all signings for the 2003-2004 season
starting with the most recent signing.
Cherry joins Dogballers
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Donta ’ Cherry of Muskogee, Okla., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.
A 5’8” guard, Cherry averaged 15.2 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals a game as a senior for Muskogee High School. He was named all-conference and Muskogee’s “Offensive Player of the Year” both as a junior and a senior. He was named to the Bedouin Shrine Classic All-Tournament team as a junior and senior, and the Arvest Invitational All-Tournament team in Bartlesville as a senior.
“They say ‘dynamite comes in small packages,’” said McPherson College head men’s basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “Donta’ is very quick and a good three-point shooter. He will bring some hard nosed intensity to our basketball program after a successful career at Muskogee High School.”
The son of Donald and Marchell Cherry of Muskogee, Donta’ will major in art/graphics design at McPherson College.

Walden latest Bulldog gridiron and roundball signee
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Jacob Walden of Bennett, Colo., to football and basketball letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 5’10”, 200-pound Walden was named to the Colorado All-State second team this past fall as a punter and to the all-state honorable mention team as a running back. Walden is the third member of Bennett High School ‘s class of 2003 to sign on as a Bulldog. He will join Mike Miller on the McPherson College football team and Kevin Ross as a Bulldog roundballer.
Walden rushed for 950 yards as a senior, then added another 900 yards receiving. An all-around athlete, he averaged 40.2 yards per punt and was credited with 79 tackles. Selected as Bennett High’s offensive “Most Valuable Player”, Walden was also a two-time all-conference selection in baseball.
“Jacob is a very solid running back,” said McPherson College offensive coordinator Jason Chalashtari. “He can play both slot and running back, which makes him valuable. We really like players that can do multiple things.
He is a very good athlete and will be a great asset to our program. It is always nice to get more than one athlete out of the same high school program.”
“We are very please d to have a dual sport athlete like Jacob commit to our program,” said McPherson College head basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “Jacob was a vital part of a very good Bennett High School team. He will bring a hard nosed intensity and a good three-point stroke to our program.”
The son of Marcy and Dale Walden, Jacob is undecided on his major area of study at McPherson College.

Dunn joins Bulldog basketball
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of David Dunn of Scott City, Kan., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 6’3”, 190-pound Dunn averaged 20 points, six rebounds, and three assists a game his senior season for Scott Community High School. Dunn will be joining his high school teammate Jordan Carter as a freshman at McPherson College.
Dunn was a first team All-Area and All-Mid-State League selection this past season. An honorable mention Class 4A All-State selection, he was named the “Most Valuable Player” at the conclusion of the 2002-2003 Scott Community tournament. Following his senior season, Dunn selected to participate in the Northwest Kansas and Southwest Kansas All-Star games.
“We are very excited to add David to our Bulldog program,” said McPherson College head coach Roger Trimmell. “He is a very athletic 6’3” wing, who is a good jumper and has great range on his shot. Having played for McPherson College graduate Glenn O’Neil at Scott City, he has a very good fundamental background in basketball.”
The son of Dan and Ruth Dunn of Scott City, David is undecided on his major area of study.

Tribune’s Cavenee signs for track & basketball
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Stacy Cavenee of Tribune, Kan., to track & field and basketball letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
A 5’11”, 140-pound hurdler and guard, Cavenee averaged 13 points and 4.5 rebounds per game this past season for Greeley County High School in Tribune. In basketball, he was an honorable mention All-Area selection. Cavenee won the 2003 Western Kansas Liberty League 300-meter intermediate hurdlers this past weekend. He has also been an important cog in the Jackrabbits’ 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as well as long jumped for GCHS.
“I was looking for the small college experience where I could continue to compete, yet know I would get personal attention and a quality education,” said Cavenee. “I was real pleased with the scholarship and financial aid package the college was able to put together for me.”
“Stacy is a heady point guard,” said McPherson College head basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “He has a good feel for the game. His passing skills are solid, he can penetrate and also know down the shot. Stacy will give us added depth at the guard spot.”
“Stacy’s hurdling ability is going to be a great addition to our program,” said McPherson track coach Pete Seal. “That is an area we need to develop and Stacy is a good start. He has shown promise in the long jump as well as having the ability to help with the relays. He is an all-around athlete of the type we feel we need to build our program.”
Stacy is the son of Mark and Nancy Cavenee of Tribune. Stacy, who intends to major in business management at McPherson College, has two older brothers, Bryce and Seth, who have competed in track at the collegiate level for Wichita State and Fort Hays State.

Ross joins Bulldog basketball
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Kevin Ross II of Bennett, Colo., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 6’4” Ross was an honorable mention all-conference selection for Bennett High School following his senior season. In his final prep season Ross averaged 7.8 points, 2.5 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game. Ross will be joining his high school teammate Jacob Walden as part of the Bulldog basketball program. Roberts is the third member of the Bennett High class of 2003 to sign with the McPherson College athletic program along with Mike Miller and Walden.
“Kevin is a combination guard-forward,” said McPherson College head basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “He will provide us with some inside muscle as well as some firepower from the perimeter. We are real pleased to another young man from the Bennett program join us.”
The son of Kevin and Tammy Ross of Bennett, Colo., Kevin II intends to major in physical education at McPherson College.

Roberts joins Bulldog basketball
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Rhys Roberts of Altamont, Kan., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 6’3” Roberts was named to the Southeast Kansas League second team following his senior season when he averaged 11 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.8 blocks, 1.9 assists and 1.7 steals per game. Selected to the Burlington Invitational all-tournament team, Roberts started 39 consecutive games for the Grizzlies and was voted Labette County High School’s “Co-Most Valuable Player” by his teammates. Roberts was also named the KBCA (Kansas Basketball Coaches Association) academic all-state team.
“Rhys is a 6’3” ‘jumping jack’,” said McPherson College head basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “He will provide us with rebounding and defense, as well as fundamentally sound guard skills. We are happy to have Rhys joining the Dogball program next fall.”
“Rhys was a joy to coach and was a real leader for our basketball program,” said Labette County head coach Brad Smith. “He was always willing to do anything I asked him to do. He played an intrical part in our team’s success this past season. I’m extremely pleased and happy that Rhys can continue his basketball career and at the same time get a very good quality education.”
Rhys is the son of Dennis and Tammy Parker of Altamont, Kan. He intends to major in physical education at McPherson College.

Hays’ Chaffin joins Mac roundballers
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Cody Chaffin of Hays, Kan., to basketball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 6’ 6”, 225-pound Chaffin was an honorable mention All-Western Athletic Conference selection following his senior season at Hays High School. Chaffin averaged 9.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.2 assists a game for the Indians, which were defeated in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament by Topeka Highland Park.
“We are excited to have Cody join us,” said McPherson College men’s basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “He will provide us with a rugged, inside presence. He’s a big guy who likes to do the ‘dirty’ work. He is solid, fundamentally sound, and team-oriented. He’ll be a good addition to our team.”
Chaffin, who was named Hays High’s “Most Inspirational” at the conclusion of his senior season of cross-country, participated in the Central Kansas All-Star game hosted by McPherson College in March. Following his junior season, he traveled with the Ambassador Sports International basketball program.
Cody is the son of Dale and Sherry Chaffin of Hays, Kan. He intends to major in Automotive Restoration Technology at McPherson College.

Scott City's Carter signs on with Bulldogs
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Jordan Carter of Scott City, Kans., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
After averaging 22 points a game his senior season, the 6’0”, Carter was the leading scorer in the recent Central Kansas All-Star Game, hosted by McPherson College, when he hit a record eight three-point shots on his way to a game high 30 points.
Carter has been a three-year letter winner in basketball, football and baseball at Scott Community High School. Jordan twice won first team All-Mid-State League honors in both basketball and for the Beavers’ state semi-finalist football team. A two-time, Class 4A honorable mention All-State honoree in basketball, Carter’s high school basketball coach at Scott Community High was McPherson College graduate Glenn O’Neil ‘84.
“Jordan is another great all-around athlete,” said McPherson College men’s basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “He can play either guard spot. He played the point for Scott City, but his performance in the All-Star game showed he can score too.
“Jordan will bring solid, fundamentals to our program. Glenn (O’Neil) was a student assistant for me, and he knows the value to doing the little things right.
“With Jordan’s range of skills, he will give us some different options to work with. He’ll give us depth at the point spot, but with his ability to shoot the ball, we’ll want to free him up to play the two-spot too.”
“We expect Jordan to make an immediate contribution to our program.”
Jordan is the son of Dan and Susan Carter of Scott City, Kans., and intends to major in elementary education.
***** Allen joins Bulldog basketball
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Travis Allen of St. John, Kans., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 6’7”, 205-pound, Allen is the second St. John Tiger to recently sign with McPherson College. Allen will be joining St. John classmate, Klayton Keesling, who recently signed a football letter of intent with the Bulldogs, as part of the first freshmen class to take advantage of the new, improved facilities which will greet next fall’s incoming class.
Allen was named All-Central Prairie League following both his junior and senior seasons. This past year, he was named to the Mid-Winter Classic All-Tournament team. Coached the past two seasons by McPherson College graduate Clint Kinnamon ‘89, Allen averaged 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.5 blocks per game his senior year.
“We are pleased to have Travis join us,” said McPherson College men’s basketball coach Roger Trimmell. “The winner of a McPherson College ‘Presidential Scholarship’, he is first of all an excellent student. Second, on the court he will give us a little more height on the inside. With another year of maturity, and some time in the weight room gaining some addition strength, Travis can make a real contribution to our program.”
“Coming from Clint’s program, we know Travis will come to us with good fundamental skills. During the Central Kansas All-Star Game, Travis showed a willingness to hang tough when the bodies started banging around inside.”
Travis is the son of Lee and Cindy Allen of St. John, Kans., and intends to major in pre-physical therapy.

Madison's Klumpe joins Bulldogs
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Austin Klumpe of Madison, Kans., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
Klumpe was a two-sport, Class 1A first team All-State performer in basketball and football this past year. During his senior season of basketball, he averaged 25.1 points, five rebounds, and three assists per game for Madison High. Klumpe, who will be trading in the black and gold Bulldogs of Madison High to join the cardinal and while Bulldogs of McPherson College, was named to the All-Lyon County League and All-Area first teams after both his junior and senior seasons.
Following his final season of prep football, Klumpe was named to the All-Lyon County League and All-Area first teams along with his Class 1A All-State honors.
“Austin is an excellent student,” said McPherson College men’s basketball coach Roger Trimmell of Klumpe, who carried a 3.96 high school grade point average. “He is a very prolific scorer, and be brings lots of energy to the court.
“Austin is an excellent, all-around athlete,” added Trimmell about Klumpe, who holds the Madison High school record for the 1600-meter run. Not only can he score, Austin will be a leader on the floor for us.”
Klumpe, who participated in the Central Kansas All-Star Game hosted by McPherson College, is the son of Jane and Kent Scott of Madison, Kans. Austin intends to major in business at McPherson College.

Rierson joins Bulldogs
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Cody Rierson of McPherson, Kans., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.
“We’ve been working for the past three years to have Cody become part of our program,” said McPherson College head coach Roger Trimmell. “Cody has been part of two of the best programs in Kansas at McPherson High and Barton County. We’re looking forward to the leadership, enthusiasm, and maturity he’ll bring to our program beginning next fall.
A 5’9”, 185-pound Rierson was a two-sport all-state performer and three-sport letterman at McPherson High School, earning Class 5A honors in both football and basketball following his senior seasons. Following his final season at McPherson High, he participated in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association all-star game in Topeka as well as the Central Kansas All-Star game at McPherson College and the Hutchinson All-Start game.
Rierson was a part-time starter for nationally ranked Barton County Community College this past season where he maintained a 3.5 GPA.
“I’m looking forward to playing for Coach Trimmell,” said Rierson. “I had a chance to watch his teams and I’m looking forward to being part of them for the next two years.”
“We are looking forward to having Cody with us,” said Trimmell. “He’s had two years of practicing against some of the best players in the nation on a regular basis the past two years at Barton, and we looking forward to a stronger, more mature Cody (than he was as a high school senior) joining us. He’ll bring an intensity, a ‘leave it on the court’ attitude to our program that can help us make a step up in the KCAC.”
The son of Joe and Cassie Rierson of McPherson, Cody intends to major in psychology or sociology at McPherson College with a career goal of becoming a U.S. marshall or an FBI agent.
