Hooks
shares KCAC "Player of the Week" honors
Brian Hooks, McPherson
College senior from Garland, Texas, was named the KCAC (Kansas Collegiate
Athletic Conference) men’s basketball “Co-Player of
the Week” for the week of February 14-19, 2005.
A
6'3” forward, Hooks led McPherson to wins over Friends University
and the University of Saint Mary last week as McPherson finished
the regular season in a tie for fourth in the KCAC race with a 11-7
conference record, 19-9 overall.
Hooks led McPherson in scoring
with 26 points, including 18 of the Bulldogs' 30 points, as McPherson
came back from a 9-point deficit to post a 74-68 win Friends on
Thursday. Brian finished the night hitting 5 of 8 treys as part
of his 8 for 13 shooting night along with 5 of 6 free throws, grabbing
5 rebounds and dishing off 5 assists as the Bulldogs broke out of
a season-long, five-game losing streak.
Saturday evening against
the University of Saint Mary , Hooks scored 11 points, grabbed 5
rebounds, dished off 1 assist and picked up 2 steals as the Bulldogs
again came from behind to grab the 66-60 win. Brian hit a 2-pointer
to pull the Bulldogs back within one point with 2:51 remaining,
then, nailed a trey at the 1:06 mark to give McPherson a 62-60 lead
it would not relinquish in gaining a tie for fourth in the conference
race and quarterfinal home game in the KCAC post-season tournament.
“Brian has really stepped
up for us late in the season, hitting the big shot when we've needed
it,” said Roger Trimmell, McPherson College head coach. “He carried
us down the stretch against Friends, then got the big baskets when
we got down to Saint Mary.”
Hooks leads the Bulldogs
in scoring this season with a career high 14.1 points per game and
ranks second among the Bulldogs in rebounds, pulling down an average
of 6.3 per game.
On November 20 th Hooks passed
the 1,000 point career scoring mark as the Bulldogs defeated Mid-America
Christian University in the Southwestern Christian Classic. He enters
the KCAC post-season with 1,325 points, eighth on the Bulldogs'
all-time career scoring list.
A 2001 graduate of North
Garland High School , Hooks was named to the 2004 All-KCAC honorable
mention squad.
Brian, a business administration
major, is the son of Herbert and Yolita Hooks of Garland, Texas.

week of January 24-29, 2005.
A
6'3” forward, Hooks led McPherson to wins over Bethel College and
Kansas Wesleyan University last week as McPherson remained in a
tie for KCAC lead with a 9-3 conference record, 17-4 overall.
Hooks led McPherson in scoring
and rebounding in the Bulldogs' 71-68 win over Bethel with 26 points
and 8 rebounds, in addition to contributing 3 assists and a steal.
For the night, he hit 12 of 15 field goal attempts including 2 for
2 beyond the 3-point stripe.
On the road against Kansas
Wesleyan, Hooks scored 11 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, dished off
1 assist and picked up a steal as the Bulldogs came from behind
to grab a 60-59 win. He hit a 3-pointer with 90 second remaining
to tie the score as McPherson came back from a 14-point second half
deficit to win its third straight and 7 th of its last 8 games.
“It nice to know you have
a senior like Brian that is capable of taking and making the big
shot when you need it,” said Roger Trimmell, McPherson College head
coach. “Against Bethel , Brian carried us until some of our other
guys began to find the range. Then, he was the one to give us a
lead once Bethel had come back to tie it up.”
“Against Wesleyan, he had
that big three late, then came away with a big rebound at the end
to seal the deal.”
