Three
Bulldogs receive All-KCAC roundball honors
McPherson College seniors
Lee Gustafson, Tim Cox, and Chris Nixon all received 2006 All-KCAC
(Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) honors in a recent vote
by the conference's coaches.
Lee
Gustafson, 6'6” forward out of St. Xavier High School in Junction
City, Kan., was named to the All-KCAC first team.
“Lee is a great example of
a young man that worked his way up the ladder,” said Roger Trimmell,
McPherson College head men's basketball coach. “Lee started on the
junior varsity as a freshman and midway through his sophomore year,
he moved into the varsity starting lineup where he has been a mainstay
ever since. Lee was our leading scorer, second leading rebounder,
and a good post defender. He was very deserving of this conference
honor.”
Gustafson started 29 of
the Bulldogs 30 games during the 2005-2006 season. He led McPherson
in scoring with an average of 11.5 points per game. He topped the
Bulldogs with 33 blocked shots and ranked second in rebounding,
pulling down an average of 5.6 per game. Lee led McPherson in scoring
14 games and rebounding, 10 times as a senior. His high games were
21 points against Ottawa University and 11 rebounds against Oklahoma
Wesleyan University . He scored in double-figures 19 games. During
his 109-game career as a Bulldog, Gustafson scored 925 points and
pulled down 592 rebounds. He concluded his career hitting 49.2%
of his field goal attempts.
Tim
Cox, 6'2” guard from Lyndon, Kan., High School, received honorable
mention all-conference honors.
“Tim's motor is always running.
He is a very good all around athlete. Tim has been an inspiration
to his teammates with his all around effort and he had some big
games for the Bulldogs this year. This is a fitting honor for a
solid senior season.”
Cox started 26 games his
senior season when he averaged 9.1 points and 3.4 rebounds a game.
Tim led McPherson in scoring seven times this past season, posting
a season high of 22 points against Bethany College . He had 11 games
scoring in double-figures. Cox scored a total of 639 points in 115
games as a Bulldog, while pulling down 295 rebounds.
Chris
Nixon, 5'11” guard from Grenada, Mississippi, by way of Waldorf
College, was named to the All-KCAC All-Defensive team.
“Chris is a great competitor,
and our leading rebounder. At only 5'11, Chris could guard anyone
from a point guard to a power forward. He lifted our team's defensive
effort and handcuffed many of the top players in the conference.
I was pleased to see him recognized for his efforts.”
Nixon was the only Bulldog
to start all 30 games during the 2005-2006 season. He scored 7.3
points per game and led McPherson in rebounding, pulling down 6.6
per game while drawing the assignment of defending the opponents
top perimeter player, night in and night out. He topped the Bulldogs
in rebounding 15 games. His top performances were 15 points and
13 rebounds, both against Bethany College . Chris led the Bulldogs
with three scoring-rebounding double-doubles. In his two years as
a Bulldog, Nixon scored 298 points and was credited with 278 rebounds
