Klumpe
and Rolfs named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
Austin Klumpe, senior from
Madison, Kan., and Cy Rolfs, junior from Lorraine, Kan., have been
named NAIA/Daktronics men's basketball Scholar-Athletes for the
2007 season.
Klumpe
started 12 of 29 games this past season when he averaged 1.9 points,
1.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists. A 2003 graduate of Madison High School,
Austin was named as the first recipient of the Pat Noyes Basketball
Scholarship earlier this year. He will graduate this spring with
his degree in business.
“Both of these young men
typify what we believe McPherson College and Dogball basketball
is all about. They took care of things in the classroom, on the
court, and in the community.”
“We
could always depend on Austin to do what we asked and then some,”
said McPherson College head coach Roger Trimmell. “That
is evident by his classroom performance, and his willingness to
play whatever role was necessary for the success of our team. Austin
was the first recipient of the Pat Noyes Men's Basketball Scholarship
and that in itself says he thought first of team rather than self.”
Rolfs
joined the Bulldog basketball program as a sophomore, following
his transfer from Garden City Community College. A 2004 graduate
of Bushton-Quivera Heights Heights High School, Rolf saw action
in six games.
“Cy didn't see a lot of court
time, but that doesn't diminish his importance to our program,”
said Trimmell. “Cy laced them up, ready to practice it each day
and make his teammates better. We never had to worry about if Cy
was taking care of things away from the Sport Center, because he
was.”
Recipients of the Daktronics-NAIA
Scholar-Athlete award must have a minimum grade point average of
3.50 on a 4.00 scale, be a junior or above in academic standings,
and been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of
one full school year.
*****
Dickerson,
Young named to All-KCAC honors
Two members of the 2006-2007
McPherson College men's basketball team were named to All-KCAC honors
in a recent vote of the conference's coaches.
Cody Dickerson, 6'0”, junior
guard from Crescent, Okla., was named to the 2007 All-KCAC (Kansas
Collegiate Athletic Conference) men's basketball honorable mention
team.
Shawn Young, 5'10”, junior
guard from Arvada, Colo., was named to the KCAC All-Defensive team.
Cody
Dickerson, a 2004 graduate of Crescent (Okla.) High School,
was the Bulldogs' leading scorer in 10 games and leading rebounder
three times. Dickerson started 27 of 29 games for the Bulldogs and
finished the season as McPherson's number two scorer, averaging
11.0 points per game. He converted 37.3% of his total field goal
attempts, 34.6% from three-point range, and 65.8% of his free throws.

the Bulldogs' January 6 th win over Ottawa . Dickerson is majoring
in physical education.
“This was a very nice honor
for Cody to be named to the honorable mention All-KCAC team,” said
Roger Trimmell, McPherson College head men's coach. “A two-year
starter, Cody has been an all-around player for the Bulldogs, second
on the team in scoring, first in assists, and a solid defensive
performer.”
Shawn
Young, a 2004 graduate of Arvada (Colo.) Pomona High School
and transfer from Trinidad State College in Colorado, topped the
Bulldogs in scoring five times, including McPherson's conference
season opener over Sterling when he scored his season high 22 points.

10 as part of a double-double at York College . Young finished the
season averaging 9.2 points per game along with 3.4 rebounds and
2.4 assists. Shawn hit 42.9% of his field goal attempts, including
38% of the 3-point attempts. The only Bulldog to start all 29 games,
he topped the Bulldogs 839 minutes played during the season. Young
is majoring in sociology.
“Shawn Young is cat quick
and an intense competitor. He stepped up each night to apply gum
wrapper defense on the conference's best guards.”
The 2006-2007 Bulldogs finished
their season with a 14-15 overall record, 7-11 in the KCAC play,
which tied for sixth place.
