Johnson
named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete
Mark Johnson, senior from
Healy, Kan., and a 2005 graduate of Healy High School, was recently
named Daktronics-NAIA basketball Scholar-Athlete for the 2008-2009
season.
Johnson
was a three-year letter winner for the Bulldogs. He started 24 of
28 games played his senior season.
“This is a tremendous honor
for Mark,” said Tim Swartz endruber, McPherson head coach. “He has
done a great job for us on the basketball court, and obviously,
he has excelled in the classroom. It certainly makes us proud
as a basketball program and college to see Mark receive this recognition.”
Johnson concluded his collegiate
career with 91 games played, 419 points, 347 rebounds, 41 assists,
38 blocks, and 44 steals. He converted 52.7% of his field goal attempts,
fourth best among all Bulldogs completing their eligibility since
2000.
Mark's career high games
were 15 points against York College last January, and 11 rebounds
against Ottawa University as a sophomore. He pulled down 10 rebounds
against three opponents as a junior. He led McPherson in scoring
one time in each of his senior, junior, and sophomore seasons. He
topped the Bulldogs in rebounding seven times as a junior and three
times as sophomore.
A business/finance major,
Johnson is scheduled to graduate in May.
Recipients of the Daktronics-NAIA
Scholar-Athlete award must have a minimum grade point average of
3.50 on a 4.00 scale, be a junior or above in academic standings,
and been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of
one full school year.

Cameron,
Reece named to All-KCAC honors
McPherson College senior
Brandon Cameron and junior Mike Reece were named to the All-KCAC
men's basketball honorable mention squad in a recent vote of conference
coaches.
Both transferred into the Bulldog program this season.
“I am pleased to see both Brandon and Mike receive recognition for
this past season,” said McPherson head coach Tim Swartzendruber.
“Considering the fact both were new to McPherson College and the
KCAC this year, I think it is a real tribute to not only to their
efforts, but also to the accomplishments of our team.”
“The first team selections were a very impressive group this year,
so for Brandon and Mike to make honorable mention is a nice reward.”
Cameron, a 6'4” graduate of Buhler (Kan.) High School, averaged
12.4 points and 4.5 rebounds while starting 23 of 26 games played.
He also contributed 31 assists, 27 steals, and six blocks. Brandon
led McPherson in scoring seven times and rebounding five times,
with highs of 25 points at Southern Nazarene and nine rebounds against
three difference opponents. Cameron transferred to McPherson College
from Mid-America Nazarene in Olathe, Kan., after spending two seasons
at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College.
Reece, a 6'3” graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio,
Tex., led McPherson in scoring this season, averaging 14.3 points,
2.9 rebounds, and 2.6 rebounds while starting 25 of 28 games played.
He also was credited with 31 steals, six blocked shots. Mike was
the Bulldogs' leading scorer 15 times and top rebounder once, topped
by his 22 points against Bethany on Feb. 14. Reece transferred to
McPherson from Hesston (Kan.) College.
The preseason pick to finish last in the KCAC race, McPherson ended
the regular season in a tie for sixth place and completed its 2008-2009
schedule with a 14-14 overall record.
