09-10 Signings

The following is a list of all signings for the 2009-2010 season starting with the most recent signing.


Dean inks with McPherson men's basketball

 

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of André Dean, Jr., of Cibolo, Tex., and Byron P. Steele High School to a basketball letter of intent for the 2009-2010 school year.

 

The 5'8”, 130-pound Dean averaged 9.8 points and 4.4 assists per game while setting a Steele HS single season record with 145 assists during his senior season with the Knights, coached by Brian Mitchell. In his final prep season, André converted a school record 79.3% of his free throw attempts, and was named Steele HS' “Offensive Player of the Year.”

 

André Dean was joined for his letter of intent signing by (front) his mother Rhonda Dean along with (standing, left) Steele HS principal Mike Wohlfarth, Steele HS head basketball coach Brian Mitchell, assistant coach Lonny Hubbard, and athletic coordinator/head football coach Mike Jinks.

Following his senior season, Dean scored 18 points as one of the 20 top 4A players in the San Antonio area invited to play in the San Antonio Lonestar All-Star game. Named second team All-District, he was named to the Harlandale Tournament and Seguin, Tex., Matador Classic all-tournament teams.

 

During the time his father was stationed in Europe with the U.S. Air Force, André twice received U.S. Armed Forces Stars and Stripes recognition. As a junior, he was named to the 2008 All-Europe boys' first team after averaging 20.5 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals per game. As a sophomore, he was named to the 2007 All-Europe second team.

 

Dean was also a two-year prep letter winner in football.

 

“I had a chance to watch André at an exposure event in San Antonio,” said McPherson College head coach Tim Swartzendruber. “I was very impressed with his court presence and leadership.  He has great enthusiasm for the game, is a disciplined point guard, and a hard worker.  He is also an excellent student.  The people at his high school speak very highly of him.  He played in an excellent district and that should have prepared him to be a good college basketball player.”

 

André is the son of André and Rhonda Dean of Cibolo, Texas. He plans to major in business management.

Grossman inks with McPherson men's basketball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Franz Grossman of Ebenthal, Austria, and Frank Phillips College of Borger, Texas, to a basketball letter of intent for the 2009-2010 school year.

Joining Franz Grossman for his letter of intent signing were (left to right) Frank Phillips athletic director John Green, Grossman, and Frank Phillips assistant basketball coach Vu Phan.

The 6'1”, 170-pound Grossman played last season at Frank Phillips for former McPherson College player Chad Kline, after spending the 2007-08 season at Southwestern College in Waxahachie, Texas.

Grossman earned academic All-American honors was named to the Dean's list and a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society this past season.

“I am extremely happy to have Franz join our basketball program,” said McPherson College head coach Tim Swartz endruber. “He played for an outstanding junior college coach in Chad Kline and I appreciate Coach Kline's help in getting Franz to McPherson College .”

“Franz is a very talented guard who displays the kind of leadership and character that will immediately make him a leader on our team.  He shoots the ball well and has great ball-handling skills.  I look for him to make an impact on our squad.”

Grossman was a 2006 graduate of SSLK Klagenfurt in Austria where he received all-region and state selection honors for coach Bill Magority. He was named the team's most improved player in 2004.

Franz is the son of Dr. Franz and Waltraud Grossman. He plans to major in business.

Lundy signs with McPherson men's basketball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Ethan Lundy of Cincinnati, Ohio, to a basketball letter of intent for the 2009-2010 school year.

The 6'4”, 190-pound Lundy was named Anderson High School 's most improved player under coach Frank Brandy and Anderson 's “Athlete of the Week” during his senior season.

Lundy averaged 8.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game during his final prep season. The right-hander shot 62.7% from the field, second best in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference.

“I am pleased Ethan has accepted our offer and will join our basketball program this fall,” said McPherson College head coach Tim Swartzendruber. “He is an extremely strong, athletic player who will provide us depth in the post position.  I love his competitive drive and work ethic.  I feel he will be a great fit at McPherson College .”

Ethan is the son of Sheila Lundy of Cincinnati, Ohio, one of a set of triplets (one brother and one sister). He plans to major in automotive restoration technology.

Derby 's Miller signs with McPherson men's basketball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Kasey Miller of Derby, Kan., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2009-2010 school year.

The 6'1”, 180-pound Miller was named to the All-Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League Division I first team and received honorable mention All-Class 6A and All-State honors as a senior for coach Ryan Herrs.

Joining Kasey Miller for his letter of intent signing were (front) his parents Kim and Randy Miller, along with (back, left) McPherson College head coach Tim Swartz endruber, Derby HS head coach Ryan Herrs, and Derby HS assistant Mike Jeffrey.

 

Miller averaged 14 points, four rebounds and three assists per game. He was named to the Dodge City Tournament of Champions All-Academic team and is a member of National Honors Society, Kansas Honor Scholar, and a McPherson College Presidential Scholar.

Kasey lettered two years in both basketball and football for the Panthers of Derby High School.

“This is a great signing for McPherson College,” said McPherson College head coach Tim Swartz endruber. “Kasey is an outstanding student and was a tremendous leader on his basketball team.  He is an excellent shooter and I love his competitive drive.”

“Kasey has played in an excellent program, had great coaching, and will be very good player for us at McPherson.  We are very thankful to sign him.”

Kasey is the son of Randy and Kim Miller of Derby, Kan. He plans to major in biochemistry.

Frazier inks with McPherson men's basketball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Aaron Frazier of McPherson, Kan., and Barton County Community College to a basketball letter of intent for the 2009-2010 school year.

Frazier played this past season for Barton County Community College in Great Bend, Kan., under coach Craig Fletchall.

Aaron Frzier was joined for his letter of intent signing by (front) his parents Ernie and Renee Frazier and (back) McPherson College head coach Tim Swartz endruber.

The 6'0”, 180-pound Frazier was a first team All-Ark Valley Chisholm Trail League and second team Class 5A All-State selection as a senior for McPherson High coach Kurt Kinnamon, after averaging 14 points, 5 assists, and 3 rebounds per game as a senior.

As a junior, Frazier had been named to the All-AVCTL second team.

“I am extremely pleased that Aaron has chosen to continue his education and basketball career at McPherson College,” said McPherson College head coach Tim Swartz endruber. “Aaron is a class act.” 

“Aaron is an excellent student.  He will represent our basketball program and college with pride both on and off the floor.  He is just a fine young man and will be a great fit for us.”

“Aaron played in a tremendous high school program for a great coach, Kurt Kinnamon.  The fact he has been well schooled will make his adjustment here very smooth.  He had a chance to be part of an outstanding team and program at Barton County .  I think the fact he has one year of college experience under his belt will allow him to be an impact player for us next year.  I couldn't be more excited about a recruit.”

A two-sport athlete, Aaron was named the MVP of the AVCTL in both basketball and soccer as a senior for the Bullpups of McPherson HS. He set a school record in soccer with 67 career goals.

Frazier received first team Class 5A All-State honors in soccer as a senior after being named second team Class 5A All-State as a junior. Frazier was named to the All-AVCTL first team in soccer as both a junior and senior after receiving second team honors as a sophomore.

Aaron is the son of Ernie and Renee Frazier of McPherson , Kan. He plans to major in business management.

Hewitt inks with McPherson men's basketball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Mason Hewitt of Norwich, Kan., to a basketball letter of intent for the 2009-2010 school year.

The 6'5”, 230-pound Hewitt was a unanimous All-Heart of the Plains and honorable mention All-State selection following his junior season for coach Dale Harper at Norwich High School.

Joining Mason Hewitt for his letter of intent signing were (front) his parents Shelly and Mitch Hewitt and (back, left) Norwich HS head coach Dale Harper, Norwich assistant coach Craig Zoeller, and McPherson College head coach Tim Swartz endruber.

Hewitt was averaging 23 points and 11 rebounds per game when his senior season came to a premature end due to an injury.

A four-year letter winner in football and basketball, Hewitt was an All-State defensive lineman and honorable mention All-State tight end as a senior for the Eagles. He has been selected to participate in this summer's Kansas 8-man All-Star game. Mason was earlier named to the All-Heart of the Plains first team as a running back and defensive lineman when he compiled 852 yards rushing, 264 yards receiving, and was credited with 75 total tackles including 50 unassisted and 32 for lost yardage.

Hewitt previously received all-league honors as a tight end and defensive end as a sophomore as well as all-league and honorable mention all-state recognition as a junior defensive lineman.

“I am very excited to sign someone with the overall athleticism of Mason,” said McPherson College head coach Tim Swartzendruber. “He was a dominating player at his level and we believe he can be a very good player in our program.  His outgoing personality and ability to relate to others will make him a great fit at McPherson College .”

Mason is the son of Mitch and Shelly Hewitt of Norwich, Kan. He plans to major in physical education.
