Mac women defeated

STERLING -- McPherson College's women played defending national champion Hastings College close for a half Friday before running out of steam in the Sterling Classic.

The Bulldogs, down only 39-30 at the half, managed just 17 second-half points as the Nebraskans pulled away to an 81-47 victory.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 4-7 on the year.

Erica Alvarez led Mac with 13 points. Turnovers were a difference, as Mac had 26, which led to just 49 field goal attempts while Hastings was taking 75 shots.

Pretty Prairie product Carly Stucky had 18 points for Hastings, which plays Sterling tonight in a battle of national powers.

The Bulldogs are playing the 5:30 game today against Newman University, which lost 94-69 to Sterling on Friday as McPherson native Kristina Barrow scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
