Mac women edged

STERLING -- McPherson College's women rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit and had a chance to tie Newman University at the buzzer Saturday night.
But the 3-point attempt fell short as did the Bulldogs' upset bid in the final night of the Sterling Classic, 61-58.
Yet, it was encouraging for the Bulldogs, who return to KCAC play Thursday hosting Saint Mary. Mac is 1-3 in the conference and now 4-8 overall.
Newman led 33-21 at the half, but the Bulldogs started to chip away at the lead in the second half.
Erica Alvarez fired in 16 points to lead the Bulldogs, while Andrea Wilder had her best game of the year with 13.
Mac (58) -- Odhams 9, Horner 3, Richardson 6, Jackson 9, Gremmer 2, Wilder 13, Alvarez 16.
Newman (61) -- Campbell 6, Lathim 6, Williams 12, Moreno 10, Deering 4, Stancoff 13, Hanson 10.
