MC women fall to Jays

Just when McPherson College women's coach Mel Wright thought things couldn't get any worse, along came the Bulldogs' first half here Saturday against Tabor.
The Bulldogs threw the ball all over the Sport Center in the first 20 minutes, averaging exactly a turnover a minute. In fact, Mac had more turnovers than shot attempts (20-19).
The result was a 32-16 halftime deficit and though things improved in the second half, Mac came away with a 62-43 loss to drop to 0-2 in the KCAC, 3-5 overall.
"I thought we couldn't get any lower," Wright said. "I just don't know what it is, how we could play two bad first halves in a row. Maybe we've gotten complacent. Some of our players who got the job done for us last year just aren't getting it done."
The Bulldogs finished with 35 turnovers in a game that had no flow to it.
Sharla Odhams scored 12 points to lead Mac. Tabor surrounded leading Mac scorer Erica Alvarez, holding her to 8 points on just 9 shot attempts. Angela Kroeker and Erica Hemmert led Tabor with 18 and 16 points apiece, while transfer Casey Studcky was strong on the boards with 11 rebounds, leading Tabor to a 45-36 edge.
"They're not 19 points better than us," Wright said. "We've just got to get it together."
Mac plays Thursday at Ottawa.
