Brunk
tops Mac's ALL-KCAC selections
Danell Brunk ,senior forward,
has been named to the 2005 All-KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic
Conference) basketball first team in votes by the conference's coaches.
The women's first team was
introduced following Tuesday's KCAC post-season tournament championship
game at Sterling .
Crystal Richardson joined
Brunk in receiving women's all-conference honors as she was named
to the women's honorable mention squad.
DANELL BRUNK
– Brunk , a 5'4” senior forward from Inman , Kan. , joined the Lady
Bulldogs for her final season of collegiate eligibility after spending
the previous year in Texas pursuing an alternative career path.
She made an immediate impact, becoming the Bulldogs leading scorer
with 15.7 points per game average, third best in the KCAC. A graduate
of Inman High School , Brunk ranked third among the Bulldogs in
rebounding with an average of 5.7 per game. She tied for 9 th in
the KCAC in steals, pilfering 1.96 per game. Brunk led McPherson
is scoring 14 times, and netted a season high 31 points in the Bulldogs'
win over Oklahoma Wesleyan University. Danell's 41.5% shooting percentage
from the floor ranked 7 th in the KCAC. One of the conference's
most athletic players, Brunk led McPherson in rebounding eight times
with a season high of 13 in the KCAC season opening win at Bethany
. She posted three double-doubles including 25 points and 14 rebounds
in the Bulldogs' November win over Avila University .
“Danell was probably the
best athlete to play for me in my 10 years at McPherson College
,” said McPherson head women's coach Mel Wright. “When she was healthy,
Danell had the skills to just take over a game.”
“I just wish we could have
had her for more than one season.”
Honorable Mention All-KCAC
CRYSTAL RICHARDSON
– Richardson , a 5'9” senior forward from Muskogee , Okla.
, was a four-year letter winner and two-year starter for the Lady
Bulldogs. A graduate of Muskogee High School , Richardson ranked
second among the Bulldogs and tied for 9 th in scoring in the KCAC
with an average of 11.3 points per game. The team's leading rebounder,
Richardson ranked 5 th in the conference, averaging 6.64 per game.
Crystal hit 77.4% of her free throws, fourth best in the KCAC. Richardson
led McPherson in scoring 10 tens, with a season high of 23 points
in the Bulldogs' win over Ottawa . She also led the Bulldogs in
rebounding 10 times with a team season high of 14 in that same win
over Ottawa . Richardson is a two-time All-KCAC honoree in softball.
On February 12, 2005, Richardson
became the fourth Lady Bulldog to score 1,000 points in their collegiate
career. She ended her collegiate career with a total of 1,037 points,
fourth on the McPherson all-time career list.
“We are really going to miss
this young lady,” said Wright. “We used Crystal at every position
except the point, and I'm sure that hurt her statistically. But,
she always did what we asked.”
“ Crystal is a pretty laid
back young lady. There were times I wished we could have found the
button to push to get her fired up a little more. Still, she ended
up being the fourth leading scorer in school history.”
