MCABC/Pinnacle Sports Homecoming Golf Tournament
The 2007 MCABC Homecoming golf tournament sponsored by Pinnacle Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics and the McPherson College Athletic Booster Club was held Friday, October 12, on the great Turkey Creek Golf Course links.
We promise not to have umbrellas as part of the give-aways again.
With a record 22 full teams participating, the 7th annual tournament got off just after its scheduled 8:00 a.m. start.
Around 10:00 a band of showers moved through the McPherson area, making the umbrellas an appropriate item to have; then, around 10:30 the air horns sounded as lightning brought play to a halt, but not before the first hole-in-one in the tournament’s history was recorded by Joe Harkins on hole #15.
Complete details of Harkins’ hole-in-one were somewhat sketchy. Playing in the first rain shower, Harkins’ club flew out of his hands after striking the ball and the entire foursome watched the flight of his club rather than the ball, which was found in the cup,…but no one actually saw the ball go in! It was Harkins first hole-in-one and he didn’t even get to see it!
Joe’s reply when congratulated on the feat, “I guess I did. It was in the hole.”
The weather radar indicated the tournament would be held up at least an hour so Plan B was instituted. The caters were called and lunch was held during the weather delay.
The players returned to the course around 11:45, and after one hole, lightning again forced a short delay (around 15 minutes) before play was able to resume and the full 18 holes were completed.
