Mac's Hernandez takes title

Troy Hernandez came up with a gold medal performance Saturday for the McPherson College cross country team, which opened its season at Rolling Acres hosting a triangular that also included Sterling and Kansas Wesleyan.

Hernandez turned in a 30:00.3 in the 8,000 meter race for a runaway victory, as he was two mintues better than runnerup Greg Jackson of Sterling.

McPherson's other runner, Bryan Grosbach, was fourth in 35:04.6.

Bethany Lobmeyer was the lone woman to enter for Mac, taking eighth in 25:38.9. Sterling's Rebecca Buttenhoff led the way witha 22:51.9.
