The Bulldog harriers traveled to Stillwater, Okla., for the OSU Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday and found fields of 232 men and 209 women awaiting them. Troy Hernandez finished the rugged 8k Cowboy course in 28:16, good for 76th overall while Bryan Grosbach ran a seasonal best 30:35 to finish 168th. Hernandez was the KCAC’s seventh finisher behind five scoring runners and a pusher from KCAC favorite Southwestern College.
Bethany Lobmeyer led the Lady Bulldogs with a mark of 24:36 for the 5k course. Mandy Shobe finished in 27:07 while Rachel Crist crossed the finish in 27:56.
“I was pleased with the way our kids competed,” said McPherson coach Bart Gray. “This course is very challenging (i.e., hilly) for a mid-plains course. The quality and numbers of runner at this meet were very similar to the University of Nebraska meet two weeks ago.”
“This meet is not only good exposure for our athletes, but also for McPherson College as far as recruiting. There were many junior colleges and high teams at this meet as well.”
This week, the Bulldogs will make a short trip to Salina for the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. That meet will be run on the Indian Rock course next to the Smoky Hill River in eastern Salina. The first race is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
