2003 Honors

Hernandez earns All-KCAC honors

Troy Hernandez earned first team All-KCAC cross country honors with his eighth place finish at the conference championships held November 1 at the Rolling Acres Golf Course north of McPherson.

Hernandez, a 2002 graduate of Richmond-Central Heights High School, covered the 8-kilometer course in a personal best 27:47.  He was running in 15th place after the first mile, 12th at two miles, then moved up to tenth at the 5,000 meters mark before pulling away to his finishing position over the final 1,000 meters.Hernandez, who just missing being All-KCAC as a freshman when he placed 17th at the KCAC meet (top 15 finishers are named All-KCAC), was the Bulldogs’ top finisher in seven of their eight meets during the 2003 season.  His KCAC meet time of 27:47 moved him up to third on the list of all-time best marks by McPherson College harriers for the 8-kilometer cross country distance.Troy opened the 2003 season by winning the McPherson Invitational in 30:00.3.  That race was the first time the 8,000 meter distance had been run on the course over the undulating hills five miles north of McPherson.Hernandez wrapped up his second year of collegiate cross country by placing 46th at the NAIA Region IV championships in Lincoln, Neb., where he matched his KCAC finish by being the second non-Southwestern College, KCAC runner to finish.Hernandez is a business major at McPherson College, where he also is serving as treasurer of the Student Government Association.
