Ford
earns All-KCAC harrier honors
McPherson
College freshman Jeff Ford was the lone Bulldog to receive 2004
All-KCAC honors in cross country.
Ford, a 2004 graduate of
Kansas City Christian Academy in Prairie Village , earned the recognition
based on his 15 th place finish at the Kansas Collegiate Athletic
Conference championships held Saturday, October 30, on Ottawa University
's Lake Pomona course.
“I was very pleased to see
Jeff earn all-conference honors,” said David Smith, McPherson College
head cross country coach. “He had to make a run in the final half
mile to catch and pass two runners in order to get into the top
15, and he did it.”
Ford's honorable mention
placing at the KCAC meet led McPherson's men's team of four freshmen
and one junior to fourth place out of the nine schools fielding
scoring teams.
Ford led the Bulldogs' finishers
in all but one of their races this past fall. Jeff posted his season
best time of 28:41 for the 8-kilometer distance at the Southwestern
Invitational at Winfield. His top finish of the season was fifth
place at the Kansas Wesleyan Invitational in Salina .
“Jeff was just beginning
to get a feel for the 8k distance as we got to the end of the season.
He was a solid high school runner for KC Christian at the 5-kilometer
distance in cross country, and now as the second freshman finisher
at the KCAC meet, the next three years should see him in the mix
for conference honors.”
Jeff is the son of Daniel
and Karla Ford of Kansas City , Kan.
