Walden named KCAC “Special Teams Player of the Week”
McPherson College senior Jacob Walden was named to the KCAC “Co-Special Teams Player of the Week” for the week of September 18-24, 2006.
Walden averaged 38.7 yards per punt on six punts as the Bulldogs defeated Ottawa University, 26-7.
Ottawa was able to return four punts for a total of four yards. Walden’s punts gave Ottawa starting positions at their own 19-yard line (0 yards on the return), 23-yard line (8 yard return), 15-yard line (9 yard return, but a 10-yard illegal block on return), 3-yard line (downed by McPherson), 11-yard line (-9 yard return), and 22-yard line (fair caught).
“Jacob’s consistent hang time allowed our coverage to arrive with the ball limiting any opportunity for a return,” said David Cunningham, McPherson College head coach.
“They talk about three facets of the game, offense, defense, and special teams, and Jacob is doing a great job of holding up his end.”
A 2003 graduate of Bennett (Colo.) High School, Walden was an honorable mention All-KCAC selection as a sophomore.
