2009 Signings
The following is a list of all signings for the 2009 season starting with the most recent signing.


Robinson set to join McPherson football program

 

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Andy Robinson of Tulsa, Okla., and East Central High School to a football letter of intent for the 2009-2010 academic school year.

 

“Andy will be the fifth player we have signed out of Tulsa 5A powerhouse East Central High School,” said McPherson head coach Brian Ward. “We have no doubt he will grow into one of the premier defensive linemen in our conference.”

 

“He has the athleticism to play right away for us at the defensive end position in long yardage situations.”

 

The 6-0, 220 pound Robinson was a letter winner in football, wrestling, and track and field at East Central High School.

 

Andy is the son of Felisia Robinson of Tulsa, Okla.

Additional signings set to join McPherson football program

Recently signing their letters of intent for the fall semester 2009 were Benjamin Barker of Muskogee, Okla., and Fort Gibson High School , Cheston (Chet) Skinner of Montezuma, Kan., and South Gray High School, Kory Lonberger of Minneapolis, Kan., and Tescott High School, Alex Stillwell of Cunningham, Kan., and Kyler Freeman of Corinth, Texas, and Denton's Guyer High School.

  Benjamin Barker (5-10, 165, FR, DB, Muskogee , Okla. , Fort Gibson HS) All-Phoenix Player of the Week; team captain; 69 tackles, one interception, three fumbles forced and one recovery, three passes broken up, averaged 5.3 yards per carry at running back; letter winner in football and track.

   Chet Skinner (6-0, 170, FR, QB/DB, Montezuma, Kan., South Gray HS) Selected for the Kansas 8-Man All-Star game; 2008 first team All-State 8-Man defensive back; All-Area first team defensive back, second team quarterback; All SPAA-Iroquois AA first team Defensive back, second team quarterback and punter. Passed for 1,700 yards, rushed for 1,200 as a senior, posting 40 touchdowns. As junior, threw for 1,000 yards and rushed for 600 yards. Part of South Gray's back-to-back Class 1A State basketball champions; 2008 Hutchinson News All-Area second team. Chet will be joining his brother Andy as part of the Bulldog football program.

  Kory Lonberger 5-10, 170, FR, RB/DB, Minneapolis, Kan , Tescott HS) Selected for the Kansas 8-Man All-Star game; All-Twin Lakes League running back and defensive back as senior after being named All-Twin Lakes DB as a junior. Rushed for 1,114 yards and 22 touchdowns. Credited with 71 tackles and five interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

  Alex Stillwell (5-6, 190, FR, OL/DL, Cunningham, Kan., Cunningham HS) Received honorable mention All-State recognition as an offensive lineman following senior season. Named to All-Area 8-man honorable mention squad. Selected All-District OL and DL as well as All-Heart of the Plains League on both sides of the ball. Selected defensive line captain and team co-captain for the Wildcats.

  Kyler Freeman (6-0, 180, FR, DB, Corinth, Texas, Denton John H, Guyer HS) Helped Guyer HS to a 12-3 record and the semifinals of the 4A Division I state playoffs of the UIL after winning their district title. Lettered in football, basketball, and track for the Wildcats.

   Joining Benjamin Barker his letter of intent signing was Fort Gibson HS head coach Jeff Taylor.

 

Chet Skinner was joined for his letter of intent by (front) his parents Kim and Tim Skinner, along with (back, left) South Gray HS head coach Joe Price, McPherson College head coach Brian Ward, South Gray HS athletic director Mark Applegate, and South Gray HS physics/chemistry teacher Tom Watkins.

16 freshmen set to join McPherson football program

McPherson College has announced the recent signings of 15 graduating high school seniors for the 2009-2010 school year plus one that is currently enrolled and on-campus for the spring 2009 semester.

Currently enrolled and on campus is true freshman Brandon Waddel l (Tulsa, Okla., East Central HS).

Graduating from the prep ranks this spring and joining the Bulldog program in the fall will be Patrick Barton (Moundridge, Kan.), Tom Brozek (Cheney Kan.), Dusty Hague (Cheney, Kan.) Caleb Hamilton (Madison, Kan.), Bryant Jackson (Enid, Okla., Chisholm HS), Taylor Lemus (Larned, Kan. / Pawnee Heights HS), Mitchell Leppke (Marion, Kan.), James Patton (Cunningham, Kan.), Taylor Roop (Moscow, Kan.), Tyler Sears (Cheney, Kan.), Dylan Smith (Lebo, Kan.), Jacob Snodgrass (Derby, Kan.), James Temaat (Dodge City, Kan. / Minneola HS), Bryant Theis (Medicine Lodge, Kan.), and Anthony Zajac (Pocahontas, Ill. / Highland HS).

Freshman currently enrolled for Spring ‘090:

  Brad Wadell (5-11, 167, FR, DB, Tulsa, Okla., East Central HS) All-conference selection for the Cardinals in '07; 85 tackles, 8 interceptions, 2 fumble recoveries, 1 forced fumble, 12 receptions for 550 yards and 1 touchdown; letter winner in football and track. “Brandon was a very highly recruited defensive back out of the outstanding Tulsa East Central High School football program.  He was one of the fastest players in the state his senior year.  He anchored the state champion 4x100-meter relay team.  He will be an excellent addition to our secondary, and is the pure cover-corner with speed that everyone is looking for.”

High School signees, enrolling for Fall '09:

  Patrick Barton (6-0, 170, FR, WR, Moundridge, Kan., Moundridge HS) Letter winner in football and baseball; 5 receptions for 92 in '08. “Patrick is a quality individual who played in an offense in high school that really didn't showcase his capabilities.  He will be a quality addition to our program because he has excellent character and work ethic. His personality will fit in very well with our football team.  We are very happy to have him, and excited to see him grow in our program.”

  Tim Brozek (5-7, 175, FR, LB, Cheney, Kan., Cheney HS) All-Central Plains 1 st team '08, honorable mention ‘07, 2-year letter winner. “Tim is an incredibly hard worker that plays with a ton of pride on the football field.  He has a non-stop motor, and will set an example in the area of pursuit in our program.  He is undersized, but makes up for it with his determination and effort.  Players with his attitude and effort are not easily found, so we will work with him as soon as he gets here to find a place where he can contribute.  We are very excited to have Tim. “

  Dusty Hague (6-3, 247, FR, DL, Cheney, Kan., Cheney HS) All-Central Plains honorable mention OL/DL '08; 2-year letter winner in football, bowling, and track. “Dusty is the prototype defensive lineman that everyone is looking for right now.  He is big, athletic, and loves to play the game.  We have been working on Dusty for quite a while, so we know the potential he has on the field.  It is also exciting for us, because he will set a great example for our program in the classroom and in the community.  He is a high-quality individual.” 

  Caleb Hamilton (5-11, 170, FR, Athlete, Madison, Kan., Madison HS) Selected to Kansas All-Star 8-Man game; All-State 8-Man honorable mention DB '08, All-Lyon County 1 st team DB/WR '08; 900 yards rushing, 300 yards receiving, 2 interceptions, 70 tackles in '08; All-Grasslands honorable mention '07; Qualifier for '08 state track meet; letter winner in football, basketball, and track. “ Caleb is another combination of great student and stand-out football player.  We have worked hard to get Caleb here for a while now.  Caleb is a guy who will play a lot and have a significant impact on our program during his career here.  He was one of the best athletes in his conference from tape we reviewed, and is another guy who was recruited by several area colleges and junior colleges.”

  Bryant Jackson (6-0, 221, FR, LB, Enid, Okla., Chisholm HS) All-conference selection in '08; All-Northwest Oklahoma selection '08; 108 tackles as senior after 112 tackles in 7 games as junior; All-conference in baseball. “Bryant is your prototype linebacker in the 4-3 system. Tough, smart, and can tackle well.  He has good size, and moves very well.  The thing that stands out on film is how physical he plays.  He loves contact.  He fits our Mike position perfectly.”

  Taylor Lemus (5'6, 156, FR, DB, Larned, Kan., Rozel-Pawnee Heights HS) All-SPIAA League 2 nd team RB and honorable mention DB; Averaged 9 yards per carry, 744 yards rushing, 196 yards receiving on 11 receptions, 12 touchdowns scored, 50 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions as senior; letter winner in football and track. “ Taylor will give us much needed depth in the secondary.  He is an incredibly intelligent football player, and will work hard to bring a spirit of competitiveness to our secondary. Taylor will be a player for us down the road. He's a proven winner.”

  Mitchell Leppke (5-10, 175, FR, DB, Marion, Kan., Marion HS) All-Mid-Central AA 1 st team QB '07, 2 nd team DB '08; 953 yards and 16 touchdowns rushing, 771 yards and 6 TDs passing in final two prep seasons; letter winner in football, basketball, and track. “ We are fired up about Mitch coming to our program.  Mitch is a guy that can play a number of positions on defense, but what stands out on film is the number of plays he makes.  You can tell he knows what he is doing on the football field, and he plays with a lot of confidence.  Mitch will be a player for us, and I can't wait to see him grow in our program.”

  James Patton (6-0, 190, FR, Athlete, Cunningham, Kan., Cunningham HS) Selected for Kansas All-Star 8-Man game; All-Heart of the Plains 1 st team Kicker, honorable mention DB '08; Averaged 12 yards per carry, rushed for 1,000 yards, 500 yards receiving as senior; All-district RB/DB '08; All-Heart of the Plains 2 nd team DB/Special teams '07; 2 nd place '08 state class 1A 100m and 200m; '08 state champion 4x100; letter winner in football basketball, track. “James was very highly recruited by the area schools, especially the junior colleges, so we feel very grateful to have him become a part of the Bulldog football program.  He is the fastest player we signed so far this year. He can play a number of positions, and he will contribute greatly in his career here.”

  Taylor Roop (6-2, 180, FR, WR, Moscow, Kan., Moscow HS) All-State 8-Man, All-Santa Fe Trail '07 & '08; All-SFT '06; 1,042 yards rushing, 738 yards passing, 32 touchdowns as senior; 2,002 yards passing, 500 yards rushing, 42 TDs as junior; 1,988 yards passing, 400 yards rushing, 38 TDs as sophomore; All-State Class 1A basketball '08; Averaging 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks as senior; letter winner in football, basketball, track, and baseball. “ Taylor is one of the best athletes and fastest players in western Kansas .  He has been a three-year, three-sport standout in football, basketball, and track.  He is a Presidential Scholar, so he is very intelligent. He has the speed to stretch a defense and will fit in perfectly in our spread offense.”

Tyler Sears (5-6, 135, FR, WR, Cheney, Kan., Cheney HS) Ranked 5 th in Class 4A in All-Purpose yards in '08; 18 receptions for 332 yards, 58 yards rushing, 391 yards in kickoff returns, 176 yards on punts, 9 touchdowns, 49 tackles, 3 fumble recoveries, 2 interceptions; 2008 state power lifting champion; letter winner in football and track. “ Tyler is one tough player.  He could get a look at a number of positions for us, and I have no doubt he will be a contributor down the road for us. He is the state power lifting champion. He plays with a lot of confidence on the field. We are very excited about Tyler , and think he will be a guy that people will hear a lot from during his career here.”

  Dylan Smith (6-4, 230, FR, DL, Lebo, Kan., Lebo HS) All-Lyon County League OL/FB '08; All-State and All-Area honorable mention Fullback '08; 55 total tackles, 16 solo, 8 tackles for loss as senior. “Dylan is someone we have been recruiting for a long time now.  He has a great frame, has a lot of ability, and is another good player from Butch Jones' program in Lebo , Kan. , High School.  His brother Cameron plays for us, so we know the type of work ethic he will bring. He is another example of the combination of factors we are looking for in our prospective recruits, great students and standout football players.”

  Jacob Snodgrass (5'10, 165, FR, QB, Derby, Kan., Derby HS) All-Ark Valley Chisholm Trail Div. I 1 st team QB '07 & '08; 2-time AVCTL Offensive MVP; All-State Class 6A honorable mention '07 & '08; Rivals All-State 1 st team offense; selected to 2009 Kansas Shrine Bowl; 2,000 yards passing, 700 yard rushing as senior, 1,250 yards passing, 800 yards rushing as junior; 500 yards passing, 200 yards rushing as sophomore; letter winner in football and basketball. “Jake is a combination of intelligence, savvy, athletic ability, character, and confidence.  These are all qualities you want at the quarterback position.  We will never have questions about his actions off the field, which in our program will always be taken into account because the quarterback position is the most visible position of leadership in our program. His transition into our offensive scheme will be seamless because it is almost identical to the one he ran at Derby High School .”

  James Temaat (6-3, 225, FR, TE, Dodge City, Kan., Minneola HS) 1 st team All-SPIAA tight end and linebacker '08 & ‘07; Named Kansas All-Star 8-Man squad; 18 receptions for 304 yards, 4 touchdowns, 12 PATs, 96 tackles, 3 sacks in '08; All-SPIAA in basketball; averaging 17 points, 9 rebounds. “We believe we got a steal with James. He was recruited by everybody. He is big, a great blocker, and has a real mean streak on the football field.  He is the leading scorer for his high school basketball team, so he is also very athletic and has very good feet.  He is going to be a monster when he commits himself in the weight room and to one sport.“

  Bryant Theis (5-9, 175, FR, WR, Medicine Lodge, Kan., Medicine Lodge HS) All-Central Plains 1 st team receiver & defensive back '08 & '07; All-State Class 3A 1 st team WR '08 & '07; KCA All-State '08; 511 yards and 7 TDs rushing, 246 yards and 3 TDs receiving as senior; letter winner in football, basketball, baseball; averaged 14.4 points in basketball as junior; 0.525 batting average, 50 runs scored, 45 RBIs for sophomore and juniors seasons. “Bryant was a two-time all-state player at Medicine Lodge, and could hurt from anywhere on the field. He is the definition of a ‘football player'.  He's tough, he plays with passion, and he is very intelligent as evidenced by him also being a Presidential scholar.  He will play a slot/utility back for us in our offense.  He will compete to play right away.”

  Anthony Zajac (6-5, 210, FR, DL, Pocahontas, Ill., Highland HS) 1 st team All-Mississippi Valley Conference '08; New Democrat (Class 5A-8A) All-Area 1 st team Defense; 136 total tackles, 69 unassisted, 6 blocked field goals, 1 fumble recovery. “Anthony is another big defensive lineman that has the perfect body and mentality for his position.  He is very intelligent as well, so he understands the work ethic we expect him to have.  I met him the first time after one of our games, and he has a great presence.  He has been one of our priority recruits since last May, so we are very excited to have him.”
