Lady Bulldogs make quick work of Builders
It took the Lady Bulldog just over an hour to put the Southwestern Lady Builders away Thursday evening in the Sport Center. McPherson ran off to a big lead in game one, then coasted to the 30-13, 30-18, 30-19 win.
The victory improved McPherson’s KCAC mark to 7-2, keeping them in third place as they completed their first round of conference play. Their fifth straight win over the past two weeks, the win was the Lady Bulldogs’ seventh consecutive conference win of 2005, as they moved above the .500 mark on the season at 10-9.
Southwestern scored the first point of game one, but after McPherson tied it at one, Jessica Miller served up 13 straight points for the Bulldogs as they grabbed a 14-1 lead. McPherson would stretch their lead to 17 points (23-6), and finally 19 points at 29-10 before putting away the visitors from Winfield, 30-13, on a Chandra Mayhan kill.
Game two started in a similar manner, with Southwestern scoring first, then McPherson going on a run. With Kendra Stephenson serving, the Bulldogs staked a 9-2 lead before gradually building their lead to 12 points at 20-8, then before exchanging points the rest of the way in winning, 30-18.
In game three, the KCAC cellar dwelling Builders were within two until 11-9, when Mayhan’s service sparked a home team run to an 18-9 margin. From there it was just a matter of time as McPherson cruised the rest of the way in the 30-19 clincher. Next week the Lady Bulldogs will take on the top two teams in the KCAC, Tabor in the Sport Center on Monday, then Wednesday traveling to Bethel. McPherson will round out its week’s play with a non-conference match against Central Christian College on Thursday in the Sport Center.
