Mac kickers defeated
FREMONT, Neb. -- McPherson College's men's soccer team had the edge over Midland Lutheran everywhere except on the scoreboard Wednesday night as it made its return to the pitch after reviving the program.
Midland nipped the Bulldogs 2-1 despite the fact Mac had more shots on goal.
"We came out and dominated play from the start," Mac coach Doug Quint said. "During a 15-minute span, we kept the ball on our attacking half of the field and had some great opportunities to score."
Tyler Lawrence apperaed to give Mac a 1-0 lead, but his shot that hit the net was waved off. Brett Livaudais also had what appeared to be a golden opportunity just miss.
Midland eventually led 1-0 at the half and pushed the lead to 2-0 before Austin Bray scored the first Mac goal of the season off a pass from Ziya Gunay.
"All in all, I thought we played well enough to win the game, but didn't," Quint said. "We weren't all on the same page today and some of our freshmen got introduced to the physical play of college soccer. I really feel like we were the better team in every position, they just capitalized on our mistakes."
Mac plays Saturday at Doane College.
Midland women 9, Mac 0 -- The Bulldogs hung tough for a half, but once the dam broke, it was a flood of Midland goals.
Mac trailed only 2-0 at the half before allowing three goals in a brief period shortly after intermission.
The Bulldogs had 4 shots on goal, while Midland had 25.
The Bulldogs host crosstown counterpart Central Christian College at 6 p.m. Monday.
