Mac kickers drop games to Bluejays

It was a night of disappointment for the McPherson College soccer teams here Tuesday.

The Bulldogs were hoping to pick up key KCAC victories on their home turf over Tabor College, but the Bluejays pulled off a sweep.

In the men's game, the streaking Bulldogs -- who had won five of six -- were stunned by the winless Bluejays, 3-1.

"Tonight was as disappointing as it gets for us," Mac coach Doug Quint said. "I must give Tabor College credit, though, they took advantage of their opportunities and came into tonight's game with nothing to lose. We tried to get across to our guys that Tabor was going to be a very good team and we couldn't overlook them. The fact is, our guys forgot about Tabor, looked to Friends Friday and it got us. Tonight we got beat with what's above our shoulders."

Tabor scored two quick goals in the first half for a 2-0 lead and then tallied a goal early in the second half. The Jays had entered the game with only six goals all season.

Brett Livadais, off an assist by Tyler Lawrence, scored the only Mac goal. The Bulldogs are now 3-5 in the KCAC and 6-11 overall with a road game Friday at powerhouse Friends. The Falcons are one of the top teams in the KCAC.

TABOR WOMEN 3, MAC 2 -- The Bulldogs took the defending KCAC champions down to the end, as the Bluejays scored a goal in the second half to break a 2-2 tie.

Rylee Miller got Mac off to a 1-0 lead with a goal and it stayed that way through the half. But Tabor got cranked up, scoring two goals to take the lead, only to see Tawni Camarillo score to knot the game. It was only three minutes later that Tabor got the winner.

"The ladies played a good game tonight against a good ballclub," Quint said. "Even though it would have been nice to have gotten a win tonight, I was proud of the way we played. We passed the ball around very well to feet, and this created some good scoring opportunties at goal for us."

McPherson High grad Kari Shorb had 6 saves for Tabor, while Sarah Story had 4 for Mac.

Mac will be seeking its third victory of the year when it plays Friday at Friends.
