starting with the most recent signing.
Livaudais signs with Mac soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Brett Livaudis of San Antonio, Texas, to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.
The 6’0”, 180-pound Livaudais was a 2003 of Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio which won the 2002 Texas state championship and was a regional finalist in 2003. In addition to his interscholastic career, Livaudais has played club soccer with Lions FC. He was named the coaches’ Most Valuable Player” for the Lions FC in 2001after being named the Lions FC “Most Improved Player” in 1998. Brett was also a member of the Olympic Development Program State Area team in 1988.
“We spotted Brett at a tournament in Arlington (Texas) and were really impressed with his skills,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “He is quick, with good skills under pressure and is strong on the ball.
“His high school team was ranked as one of the top teams in the nation and his club is known as one of the top clubs in Texas. The winning experience and attitude he’ll bring to our program is really exciting.”
The son of Ken and Laura Livaudais of San Antonio, Texas, Brett plans to major in business at McPherson College.

Bray signs with Bulldog soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Robert Austin Bray of Broken Arrow, Okla., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 6’0”, 166-pound Bray will transfer to McPherson College from Southwestern Oklahoma State where he started 19 of 19 games as a freshman. A 2002 graduate of Provo Canyon High School, Bray was twice selected as the “Most Valuable Player” and “Best Offensive Player” for the Tulsa Soccer Club which was Oklahoma State champions in 1999 and 2001.
“I’m very pleased to have Austin joining our Bulldog program,” said McPherson College soccer coach Doug Quint. “He developed as a player in the most respected club program in Oklahoma, the Tulsa Soccer Club. During his time with them, they won two Oklahoma State Cup titles. Each year, the TSC produces some of the state’s top players and their teams compete nationally, year in and year out!
“Last year, Austin was the only freshman to start every game of SWOSU. He has the potential to be an impact player for us and to set the example for all our younger players. He is a young man who competed in one of toughest D-II conferences in the nation, so he knows what it takes to be successful. I’m looking for great things from Austin as part of the McPherson College program.”
Robert is the son of Debra Sherrill of Broken Arrow, Okla.

Sweatman joins Bulldog soccer and football
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Chris Sweatman of Bethany, Okla., to soccer and football letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 5’10”, 152-pound Sweatman won All-District, All-Conference, and honorable mention All-State honors in soccer as well as All-District, All-Conference, and All-Oklahoma City ‘Big School’ honors in football following his senior seasons of play at Putnam City West High School.
A multiple honoree as “Player of the Week” in both football and soccer, Sweatman led Putnam City West High School’s strikers in goals scored as a senior and was named the school’s “Most Valuable Player” following his senior soccer season. In addition he tied the school record for football field goals in a season with seven.
“Chris comes to McPherson College soccer with a good soccer playing background,” said McPherson College soccer coach Doug Quint. “He played for a highly recognized Genesis club team from Oklahoma and for Putnam City West High School. Chris brings good speed and mobility as an attacking player to our Bulldog program. I look for him to really help us out immediately since he can put some points on the board.”
Winner of the “Most Valuable Kicker” award at the Uwe VonSchammen kickers’ camp prior to his final prep season, he earned the “Longest Field Goal” award at the camp by kicking one of 61-yards. After his senior football season in which he kicked seven field goals, he was selected to play in the Jim Thorpe All-Star game where he set an all-time game record by kicking a field goal of 47-yards.
“Chris is a tremendous athlete,” said McPherson College offensive coordinator Jason Chalashtari. “Any time you can get an All-State kicker, you have to feel fortunate. Chris has the potential to be a lethal weapon for our special teams.
He consistently kicks the ball in the endzone on his kickoffs. He even hit a 61-yard field goal. Needless to say, we are excited about Chris joining our program.”
The son of Michele Sweatman of Bethany, Okla., Chris will major in pre-physical therapy at McPherson College.

Lamm joins brother, signs with Mac soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Kevin Lamm of Wichita, Kan., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.
The 5’7”, 180-pound Lamm graduated from Hutchinson High in 2001 and has played for Friends University of Wichita the past two years.
“I’m extremely pleased to have Kevin coming to defend our goal next fall,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “Kevin gives us a very solid, experienced player in what some consider the most important position on the field. Plus, he brings two years of college playing experience with him.
“He is very familiar with the KCAC, being he has played at Friends University the last two seasons. As a keeper, Kevin is very commanding of his box and is good at keeping things organized. Technically, he is very solid, with great hands and his outlets to start the offense are one of his best skills.
“Kevin played for me at the club level, and at Hutchinson High School. That familiarity with each other can be huge for our program’s immediate success.”
The son of Kim Wehmeyer of Wichita, Kan., Kevin will be joining his younger brother Ryan Souter as part of the McPherson College soccer program. Kevin will be a junior, majoring in business administration, at McPherson College.

Yount signs with Bulldog soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Steven Yount of Joplin, Mo., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.
The 6’0”, 180-pound Yount graduated from Joplin High School in 2002, then played this past year at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan.
“I’m very excited about Steven joining us next fall at McPherson College,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “He gives us another experienced college player which will be so important for our success in the immediate future.
“Steven is a defender that will bring a physical presence along with great athletic ability to our program. He’s a good tackler of the ball and has the touch, speed, and mobility to get out of the pack. I really look for him to play a key role in our back line next year.”
A four-year letterman for Joplin High, Yount was named second team all-conference and honorable mention all-district as a sophomore before being named honorable mention all-conference and all-district as a senior. Also a two-year letter winner in tennis in high school, Yount was named “Rookie of the Year” as a junior and “Most Improved Player” as a senior.
The son of Mark and Tracy Yount of Joplin, Mo., Steven plans to major in biochemistry at McPherson College and then pursing a career in medicine.

Herber joins Mac soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Matt Herber of Wood River, Neb., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
A four-sport letter winner at Northwest High School in Grand Island, Neb. Herber earned post-season honors in football and basketball as well as soccer. At 5’10”. 160-pounds, Herber was named to the 1989 Nebraska Olympic Development Regional team and was selected to play in the TourneySport USA Invitational in Hawaii. He was named to all-conference and all-district honorable mention teams in football as well as being named to the Nebraska All-State academic team.
At Northwest High, Herber set the all-time school best for career assists as well as for most assists in a season with 17.
“Matt is a quality student, person, and soccer player,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “He is exactly the type of student-athlete we are looking for at McPherson College. He is a member of the National Honor Society, was named to the National Honor Roll, and received the academic letter award all four years at Northwest High School.
“I am really pleased to have Matt join us. He will make an immediate contribution on the field next fall.”
Matt is the son of Jeff and Valarie Herber of Wood River, Neb. He intends to major in biology with a goal of attending medical school.

Gunay decides to double; joins Bulldog soccer
McPherson College has announced the intent of on-campus student-athlete Ziya Gunay to join the Bulldogs soccer program for the 2003-2004 academic year.
A two-letter winner as a kicker for the Bulldog football team, Gunay led the Oklahoma City “Indoor Soccer Arena” league four times in most goals scored and three times in assists. A graduate of Corn Bible Academy in Geary, Okla., the 5’7”, 140-pound Gunay has played extensively at the club level. He is a computer science major at McPherson College with a minor in business.
“Ziya is a proven goal scorer and a very committed individual,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “Most of his soccer experience comes from club ball in the country of Turkey. He has a good touch under pressure and knows how to finish. With some hard work this summer (by Gunay), I look for him to give us a scoring threat up front next season.”

Mac soccer signs Seghers
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Dwayne “D.J.” Seghers of Slidell, La., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 5’8”. 170-pound Seghers is transferring to McPherson College following a two-year career at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan., where he was named to several all-tournament teams during the 2002 season.
A 2001 graduate of Slidell High School, which won district championships his junior and senior seasons, Seghers also played club ball for the Slidell Heat which won the 2001 Louisiana U-19 state title. Individually, he twice received all-district honors and was named to the all-parish squad is senior year.
“I’m thrilled to have D.J. continuing his education and athletic career at McPherson College next fall,” said McPherson College head coach Doug Quint. “He provides us with much needed experience of playing at the collegiate level. It was a goal in our recruiting to go after some junior college players that would make an immediate impact for our young squad.
“D.J. has experienced the ups and downs of the game and knows what it takes to be successful. After coming from a successful high school program (Slidell High School), it was hard for him to accept losing at the next level. He dealt with some very adverse situations in a mature, positive way. That showed me a lot about his character.
“D.J. is a very physical player, built well for the college game. He has good technical skills and can play any position on the field. I’m looking for his leadership to play a key role for us next season.”
D.J. is the son of Dwayne and Deidre Seghers of Slidell, La., and will major in business at McPherson College.

White joins Mac soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of John White of Wichita, Kan., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
A three-year letter winner in soccer for Southeast High School in Wichita, White earned All-Wichita City League honorable mention honors following his senior season during which the Buffaloes were Class 6A Regional champions.
“John brings a lot to the table,” said McPherson College head coach Doug Quint. “He is a very quick, mobile player. His technical ability allows him to do so many things with the ball. His work ethic is second to none and that goes right along with his deep passion for the game.
“I see John playing just about anywhere on the field, and having a lot of success. He has been involved in a very successful program at Southeast and he understands what it takes to succeed.”
The son of Danny and Brenda White of Wichita, Kan., John intends to be a pre-law/business major at McPherson College.

Carman signs with McPherson
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Daniel Carman of Topeka, Kan., to soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
The 5’ 10”, 175-pound Carman will graduate this spring from Topeka West High School, which fielded KSHSAA Final Four teams in both 2001 and 2002. A Kansas Coaches Association Class 5A All-State honoree after both his junior and senior seasons, Carman was also an I-70 League first team selection as a senior after being named second team as a junior. Twice named to the Topeka-area, All-City first team, Carman captained the Chargers as both a junior and a senior. He was twice named Topeka West’s “Most Valuable Player” and “Most Valuable Defender.”
A member of the National Honor Roll and a four-year honor roll student at Topeka West, Carman has been named to a “Dean’s Scholarship” at McPherson College.
“We are thrilled that Danny has decided to join us next year,” said McPherson College head coach Doug Quint. “As one to the top players in Topeka, a lot of established programs were after him. To have a player of his ability commit to McPherson College says a lot about his belief in what we are trying to do here.
“Danny is a strong and very quick defender, who will provide us with a lot in the back line. He is technically sound and makes good decisions on the field under pressure. Danny is a very dedicated individual in the classroom as well as on the field as shown by his academic record. Danny will be a great addition to our college community and team.”
Daniel, the son of Randy and Loretta Carman of Topeka, Kan.., intends to major in accounting at McPherson College. Carman’s older brother Brian played soccer at Baker University.

Beaird joins McPherson soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Jesse Beaird of Olathe, Kan., to soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
A two-year letter winner at Olathe North High School, Beaird will bring more size to the Bulldog defense, standing 6’0” and 175-pounds.
“Jesse is a bright young man that will bring a lot of things to the campus in addition to his soccer skills,” said McPherson College head coach Doug Quint. He is very committed in the classroom, and I’m told, one heck of a guitar player.
“Jesse will provide us with much needed size and strength in the trenches. He comes from very solid high school program that has had good success over the years. I look for Jesse to excel in many ways as a Bulldog.”
Jesse, the son of Scot and Tammy Beaird of Olathe, Kan., intends to major in business and finance at McPherson College, where he also will be involved in the music program.

On-campus signings for soccer
McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint has announced that students on campus this semester will be part of the re-established Bulldog soccer program next fall. Joining the program will be Becky Amiot of Rockford, Ill., Rylee Miller of Rangely, Colo., and Jonathan Rothrock of McPherson, Kan.
A 2002 graduate of McPherson High, Rothrock began his college career at Manchester College in North Manchester, Ind., before transferring to McPherson this spring. “I’m pleased to have Jon back in McPherson after his stint at Manchester. After winning a Class 5A state championship at McPherson High, Jon started 16 of 18 games as a freshman at Manchester. Jon is a defender who rarely gets beat one-on-one, and has good technical skills. He is a hard worker and a model student-athlete. I look for him to solidify our back line and provide a level of collegiate experience to a new program.” Jon is the son of LaMonte and Brenda Rothrock of McPherson, Kan.

Mac soccer adds twos
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Richard Brad Cates of Lawrence, Kans., and Brian Trussell of Wichita, Kans., to soccer letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
A 2002 graduate of Lawrence High School, Cates has spent the current school year at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kans.
“Brad is a mid-field player with good speed and mobility,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “I see him flourishing at the collegiate level. His work ethic and dedication to everything his does, is a great fit for McPherson College. He brings a good soccer background. His coach was a colleague of mine in the Kansas Olympic Development program.”
In his final season at Lawrence High, Cates was received the “Iron Man Award” for outstanding work ethic.
“Brad hasn’t been part of a formal track and field program recently,” said McPherson track coach Pete Seal. “But, he has expressed an interest in competing in the distance events. Coming out of a sport like soccer, where he is running almost non-stop, he shows the necessary endurance (to run distance events.)”
“We had several members of this year’s track team join our program after their other sport has completed its season,” added Seal. “That is the type of opportunity a young athlete won’t get at a larger school in many cases.”
Tyler is the son of Rick and Emily Cates of Lawrence, and he intends to major in education.
Trussell is the second soccer signee from Class 6A power, Wichita Northwest High School. Trussell will join his high school teammate Ryan Souter next fall as part of the re-established, McPherson College soccer program.
“Brian plays an attacking type of game. He is very quick, is excellent when going one-on-one, and is left-footed,” said Quint. “Brian has the skills necessary to hold the ball well under pressure, and physically, is strongly built, just right for the college game.”“The thing that set Brian apart from many players is his ability and desire to take other players on, one-on-one. He want to beat other players, head-to-head, and is always looking to do so. Brian has the ability to play out wide, or up front at striker. I can see him playing some of both positions for us.
Brian is the son of Dorothy Trussell of Wichita. He plans to major in business at McPherson College.

Signings begin for men's soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signings of Tyler Lawrence of Hutchinson, Kans., and Ryan Souter of Wichita, Kans., to soccer letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.
With his signing, Lawrence will be joining his high school coach, Doug Quint, at McPherson College. A second team All-State honoree, and a first team All-Region and All-Ark Valley League first team selection this past season, Lawrence led the Hutchinson High defense, which didn’t allow a goal in Ark Valley League play.
Tyler Lawrence
“This is a huge signing for our program,” said McPherson College head coach Doug Quint. Tyler is an impact player who has been through many battles with me over the years. He is a winner wherever he goes, and is technically one of the best players I have coached.”
“Even though Tyler is know as an offensive player, last fall I needed someone to anchor our (defensive) back-line. Tyler stepped in and provided us with that anchor. That says a lot about him! He is willing to do what it takes for team to be successful! I look for Tyler to provide a foundation in the heart of our center mid-field, or possibly play up front for us.”
“Tyler has played for me since he was eleven, and I’m looking forward to another four years of success with him.”
Tyler is the son of Bruce and Julie Lawrence on Hutchinson, and he intends to major in computer science at McPherson College.
Ryan Souter
Souter was a key cog in the highly successful, class 6A Wichita Northwest High School program. His defensive play for the Grizzlies earned him selection as a second team All-Region honoree as well as All-Wichita City League honors.
“I am very pleased to have Ryan on my side of the field, again,” said Quint. “He played for me until his sophomore year when he moved to Wichita. Ryan is a quality player who tackles the ball well, and is very strong in the air.”
“We believe Ryan is just the beginning of our recruiting pipeline in Wichita.”
Ryan, who intends to major in pre-law at McPherson, is the son of John Souter and Kim Wehmeyer of Wichita. Ryan’s family will be looking forward to October when the Bulldogs conclude their regular season at Friends University in Wichita. The family may have to alternate sides of the field since Ryan’s older brother, Kevin Lamm, is a member of the Falcons’ program.
