Rodriguez
Named NAIA Men's National Soccer Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA) Men's Soccer national weekly awards were announced for the
week of Sept. 24-30 and Armando Rodriguez of McPherson (Kan.) was
named the NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week while Mike
Borst of Concordia (Calif.) was selected as the NAIA National Defensive
Player of the Week.
Rodriguez, a 5-9 sophomore forward from Dallas, Texas broke the
McPherson career scoring record in three wins last week. He posted
back-to-back three-goal matches in wins over Tabor (Kan.) and Ottawa
(Kan.) which was after a three-point effort (one goal and one assist)
against Manhattan Christian (Kan.). For the week, he went for seven
goals, two assists and 16 points. On the season, Rodriguez leads
Region IV in scoring and is fourth in the country in scoring (3.40
points/game).
“Armando had an outstanding
last week,” added McPherson head coach Doug Quint. “For him
to be recognized as the nation's best offensive player last week
in the NAIA, says a lot about him and our program here.”
“I was very pleased to
see this honor, but felt it was very well deserved. He's truly one
of the premier strikers in the country!”
Borst, a 5-11 senior goalkeeper from Shelby Township, Mich., was
part of a school record for the Eagles last week. In the 3-0 road
win at Hope International, Borst made all four saves on goal. Later,
Borst stopped two kicks in the 3-0 win over The Master's (Calif.),
who received votes in the latest NAIA poll. For the week, he totaled
six saves in 180 minutes. He has helped Concordia post 720-consecutive
scoreless minutes, which is a school record streak. In eight matches
played this year, Borst has only allowed two goals.

Rodriguez
takes Region IV and KCAC soccer Offensive POW, again

McPherson
College sophomore forward Armando Rodriguez was named the NAIA Region
IV and KCAC Men's soccer “Offensive Player of the Week” for the
second straight week for his play September 24-30, 2007.
Rodriguez had seven goals
and two assists as the Bulldogs' swept past Manattan Christian College
(2-0), Tabor College (3-0), and Ottawa (6-2).
Rodriguez had one goal and
one assist in the win over Manhattan Christian before coming back
with a pair of hat tricks in the final two games of the week. He
was also credited with an assist in the KCAC win over Tabor.
His three goals against Tabor
moved him to the top of all-time McPherson College goals scored
list, surpassing John White's 31 goals in 75 matches between 2003
and 2006. Rodriguez's three goals in the win over Ottawa then raised
his season total to 15 goals and gives him 36 in his 26-match collegiate
career.
Through the Bulldogs' first
10 matches of 2007, Rodriguez also has four assists and has scored
34 points.
The Dallas, Texas, sophomore
is currently tied for fourth in the NAIA in goals scored and ranks
fifth in points scored. His 35 shots on goals ties him for fourth
in that category among NAIA players.
“
What an outstanding performance last week,”
said Doug Quint, McPherson College head coach. “ Armando
just continues to move himself up the ladder of excellence. More
importantly, our team went 3-0 last week with his performance.”
“With his performance last
week, Armando places himself in the top five nationally in the NAIA
in points thus far offensively. My hope is that this is only the
beginning for him as a player and person.”
Rodriguez set a McPherson
College single season record in 2006 when he scored 21 goals and
totaled 48 points.
The trio of wins raised the
Bulldogs' season record to 9-1-0 overall, 3-0-0 and tied for first
place in KCAC play.
Rodriguez is a 2006 graduate
of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas.

McPherson College sophomore
forward Armando Rodriguez was named the NAIA Region IV and KCAC
Men's soccer “Offensive Player of the Week” for the week of September
17-23, 2007.
Rodriguez
scored four goals in the Bulldogs' swept 7-2 win over intra-county
rival Bethany College , McPherson's only match of the week.
Rodriguez's first three goals
came within a five-minute after he entered the contest with approximately
20 minutes remaining in the first half. His fourth goal came 13
minutes into the second half, and he later was credited with an
assist on McPherson's final goal as the Bulldogs put away the 7-2
win.
“Armando
had a great performance against Bethany last week ,”
said Doug Quint, McPherson College head coach. “ His hard
work really paid off. Armando has put together two great performances
in a row. This recognition was well deserved.”
Rodriguez set a McPherson
College single season record in 2006 when he scored 21 goals. Through
seven games this season, he has scored eight goals and dished off
two assists, and is now only two goals short of tying the McPherson
career record of 31 goals.
The win raised the Bulldogs'
season record to 6-1-0, 1-0-0 in KCAC play.

Davis
named KCAC Defensive POW
(Sept.
18, 2007)
McPherson College senior
goal keeper Michael Davis was named to the KCAC Men's soccer “Defensive
Player of the Week” for the week of September 10-16, 2007.
Davis allowed only two goals
as the Bulldogs swept three matches during the week, defeating Central
Christian College (4-0) on Tuesday before turning back Northwood
University of Texas and Southwestern Assemblies of God University
by identical 3-1 scores at the SAGU Classic in Cedar Hills and Waxahachie,
Texas.
Davis occupied the McPherson
goal all 270 minutes during the week in which he recorded a total
of 10 saves. The 3-0 win over Central Christian was Davis ' second
shut-out of the season, after previously blanking the University
of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (1-0).
“Michael is a player that
brings it everyday,” said Doug Quint, McPherson College head coach.
“He's so competitive and works so hard to improve himself everyday.”
“When we need a big save,
the team knows Mike will be there. Last week was another good week
for him and the team. There is a reason why he is in my opinion
the top keeper in the conference. He just continues to add to the
records he has already broke here."
On
the season, Davis has compiled 35 saves while surrendering 10 goals
as the Bulldogs have compiled a 5-1 season record and now occupy
the #5 spot in the Region IV NAIA rankings release Monday.
Davis is a 2004 graduate
of Putnam City West High School in Oklahoma City , Okla.
