Jose
Rodriguez named KCAC soccer Offensive POW
McPherson College senior
forward Jose Rodriguez was named the KCAC men's soccer “Offensive
Player of the Week” for his play in the Bulldogs' wins over during
the week of October 27 to November 2.
Rodriguez
was credited with the game winning goal as the Bulldogs' defeated
Sterling College, 2-1, on Wednesday.
Saturday evening, Rodriguez
scored two goals as the Bulldogs wrapped up their 2008 regular season
with a 3-1 win over Bethany College .
The win over Bethany guaranteed
the Bulldogs second place in the 2008 KCAC race.
Rodriguez' three goal week
gave him four goals and one assist on the season. His nine total
points ranks third among the 2008 Bulldogs.
“Jose had a very good week
for us,” said Doug Quint, McPherson College head coach. “He was
extremely dangerous on the offensive end and provided us with a
lot of creativity. It was nice to see him recognized for having
a good week offensively.”
With the KCAC honor, Jose
joins his brother Armando as the only brother duo in the KCAC to
win the weekly honor in 2008.
The wins over Sterling and
Bethany were the fourth and fifth straight for McPherson and raised
the Bulldogs' season record to 9-7-1 overall and 6-2-1 in KCAC play.
The Bulldogs second place
finish in the KCAC race was a new school record for regular season
conference finish.

Rodriguez

forward Armando Rodriguez was named the KCAC men's soccer “Offensive
Player of the Week” for his play in the Bulldogs' win over Ottawa
University on October 4, 2008.
Rodriguez
was credited with one goal and one assist as the Bulldogs' swept
past the Braves, 3-0.
After a scoreless first half,
Rodriguez had the assist on the match's first score, making the
goal set-up pass to Eddie Rodriguez, 13 minutes into the period.
In the 82 nd minute of the match, Armando converted a solo attack
to complete the match's scoring.
Through the Bulldogs' first
10 matches of 2007, Rodriguez also has four assists and has scored
34 points.
The Dallas, Texas, junior
is currently leads the Bulldogs in assists with three, and is tied
for McPherson team lead in goals scored with three and points with
nine.
“Armando worked hard last
week and this resulted in a good performance Saturday night,” said
Doug Quint, McPherson College head coach. “He should be pleased
with his performance.”
“The goal he scored with
his right foot was as good of a strike as any!”
“He has been battling little
nick-knack injuries this fall which has hurt his performances. It's
nice to see him starting to get healthy.”
Rodriguez set a McPherson
College single season record in 2006 when he scored 21 goals and
totaled 48 points, and is the Bulldogs' career scoring leader with
37 goals, and totaled 85 points through his first two collegiate
seasons.
Armando is a two-time NAIA
honorable mention All-American. In 2007, he was named the NAIA National
“Offensive Player of the Week” and KCAC “Offensive Player of the
Year.”
The win over Ottawa raised
the Bulldogs' season record to 4-5-0 overall and 1-0-0 in KCAC play.
Rodriguez is a 2006 graduate
of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas.
