2009 Players of the Week

Tank named KCAC men's soccer defensive “Players of the Week”

Wichita, Kan. – McPherson sophomore center defender Tyler Tank earned recognition as the KCAC men's soccer defensive “Player of the Week” for their play during week five (Oct. 12-18).



The 6-5, 200-pound defender is a central part of a McPherson backline that allowed only six shots on goal in two shutout road matches against Bethel College and Friends University. McPherson's defense has recorded seven shutouts in 12 matches, ranking the Bulldogs fourth nationally in total shutouts.

In 2008, Tank was selected first team All-KCAC following a freshmen season in which he was an instrumental part of the McPherson College KCAC Tournament Championship team.

Tank is a graduate of McNeil High School, Austin Texas. He is majoring in accounting and finance at McPherson College.

The Bulldogs are currently 11-1, 5-0 in the KCAC, and are riding an eight match-winning streak.

McPherson returns to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 21, when they travel to Winfield to take on Southwestern College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

Bulldogs sweep KCAC men's soccer “Players of the Week”

Wichita, Kan. – McPherson junior forward Brent Mulford and freshman defender Michael Phillips earn recognition as the KCAC men's soccer offensive and defensive “Player of the Week” for their play during week five (Oct. 5-11).

The 6-2, 175-pound Mulford, offensive “Player of the Week,” in two matches scored two goals and had one assist, including an assist and the game winning goal against rival Kansas Wesleyan University. Mulford currently is second on the team with 19 points on eight goals and three assists.

Mulford a graduate of Topeka High School in Topeka, Kan., transferred to McPherson from Allen County Community College. Brent is majoring in graphic design at McPherson College

Defensive “Player of the Week,” Michael Phillips was a focal point on a defense that allowing only one goal in two matches during the week. Along with his defensive presence, Phillips tallied three assists, including the assist on Brent Mulford's game winning goal against Kansas Wesleyan University. Phillips is part of a defense that has allowed only six goals this season.

Phillips is a graduate of Midland High School, Midland, Texas. He is majoring in business at McPherson College.

McPherson returns to the pitch Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they travel to North Newton to take on Bethel College. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

Rodriguez named men's soccer KCAC Offensive "Player of the Week"

Wichita, Kan.- Senior forward Armando Rodriguez was selected as the KCAC Offensive "Player of the Week" for his play in week No. 3 (Sept. 21-27).

During the week, McPherson improved their record to 6-1 with wins against Central Christian College (4-0) and Manhattan Christian College (5-1). For the week, Rodriguez scored five goals, including four in the match against Manhattan Christian College.

Armando leads the team with seven goals on the season, ranking him 16 th in the NAIA in goals per game. He also ranks in the top 20 in three other categories; points per game (17 th ), shots on goal per game (17 th ) and total points (20 th ).

Rodriguez is the current McPherson College all-time leader in goals, points and assists. The five goals placed Rodriguez at 51 goals for his career at MC in less than four years.

Rodriguez is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Texas. Armando is majoring in music at McPherson College.

The Bulldogs open KCAC conference play on Saturday, Oct. 3, when they travel to Ottawa University. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.

Jett named KCAC Defensive "Player of the Week

McPherson College sophomore goalkeeper Blake Jett was selected as the KCAC Defensive “Player of the Week” for his play in the matches against the University of Sioux Falls and Briar Cliff University.

Against USF, Jett recorded three saves and conceded one goal in 90 minutes of action. He continued his excellent play the next afternoon against Briar Cliff University. He recorded five saves in his second shutout in three games for the Bulldogs.

Jett graduated from Keller Central High School in Fort Worth, TX. Blake is majoring in business administration at McPherson College.

The two victories improved the Bulldogs' record to 3-0 on the season.

McPherson will be back in action Wednesday for their home opener against Mid-America Christian University. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
