2003 Signings
The following is a list of all signings for the 2003 season starting with the most recent signing.


Camarillo signs with Lady Bulldog strikers
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Tawni Camarillo of El Reno, Okla., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.

A 2003 graduate El Reno High School, Camarillo received All-District honors as a senior after being named honorable mention following her first three interscholastic seasons. At the conclusion of the 2002 season, she was selected as El Reno’s “Most Valuable Player” and “Defensive Player of the Year.”

“We are very pleased to have a player with Tawni’s ability and attitude become part of our program,” said Doug Quint, McPherson College head soccer coach. “She is a very competitive individual, one who is always looking to improve herself. Tawni will bring a lot of speed, skill, and heart to our program. She can be an impact player at any position of the field. I look for her to play a huge role for us over the next four years.”

As a freshman and sophomore, Camarillo scored 20 goals and dished off 35 assists while playing up front. She then moved back to the defensive end, playing sweeper her final two seasons.

Tawni is the daughter of Toni Roblyer of El Reno, Okla.

Harvey signs with Lady Bulldog strikers
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Mandy Harvey of Leander, Texas, to soccer and track & field letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.

A 2003 graduate of Leander High School where she received all-district honors as a sophomore and junior, Harvey played club soccer for the 81 Lady Rattlers Club which was 1999 Texas state champions and the 83 Lady Chaps Club which won the 2000 Texas title. In addition to leading her high school team in assists, Harvey averaged better than one goal per game during her career as a club player.

“Mandy is a young lady who has worked through many obstacles in making a decision to attend McPherson College,” said Doug Quint, McPherson College head soccer coach. “Even though things were tough on her, she remained determined in what she wanted and kept a positive attitude. I can’t say enough about that.

“Mandy is a great fit for McPherson College and what we stand for. Here is a player with (NCAA) Division I ability, who is attending McPherson because of the quality of academics and the small class environment. She loved everything we had to offer here and really felt at home.

“Mandy gives us a very dangerous offensive weapon up-front. I look forward to building team around her over the next four years.”

The daughter of James and Debbie Harvey of Leander, Texas, Mandy has trained under Jaime Mimbela and Luis Valera since she was 13. Both Mimbela and Valera both played at the top level of the Peruvian professional leagues. Mandy plans to major in pre-physical therapy at McPherson College, and also compete in track and field.

Hatfield joins Lady Bulldog soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Callie Hatfield of Ottawa, Kan., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.

Hatfield is a 2002 graduate of Ottawa High School, and played this past season at Central Christian College of McPherson. During her four-year soccer career at Ottawa High, she allowed an average of 1.06 goals per game during 47 games in goal.

“I’m very pleased to announce that Callie is transferring to McPherson College next fall,” said McPherson College head coach Doug Quint. “She is a very competitive individual, who is excited about becoming a Bulldog.

“Callie gives us an experienced player who can play on the field or in the goal. I look for her to contribute to our program in many ways.”

The daughter of Michele Hatfield of Ottawa, Callie plans to major in elementary education at McPherson College.

Hutch’s Banz signs with Mac soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Chrystal Banz of Hutchinson, Kan., to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.

The 5’3” Banz is a 2003 graduate of Hutchinson High where she played for Chris Reeves.

“Chrystal will really fit in well at McPherson College,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “I’m really excited that she chose to become a Bulldog. She is a very dedicated and hard working individual. Not only will she be playing soccer for us, she will be performing in the music department as well.

“I see Chrystal developing into a very successful collegiate soccer player over the next four years.

The daughter of Derrald and Verlene Banz of Hutchinson, Kan., Chrystal will be majoring in art/graphic design at McPherson College.

MHS’ Engquist joins Mac soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Laura Engquist of McPherson, Kan. to a soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.

A 2003 graduate of McPherson High School, Engquist has demonstrated tremendous athletic versatility. She has played two years of competitive ice hockey and lacrosse as well as one year of field hockey in addition to her two years of soccer. As a freshman, she was named to the East Coast Independent All-Star ice hockey team as a defenseman.

“I’m very pleased to have Laura join us at McPherson College,” said McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint. “To have another local player stay in town to help us establish things here is huge!

“Laura brings extreme quickness and a sense of toughness to the program. She has the speed that very soccer coach is looking for in players and the ‘no fear’ attitude that each player needs. She has the ability to play out wide or up front and her speed will cause lots of fits to opponents. I really look forward to working with her over the next four years.”

Laura is the daughter of Rick and Dee Engquist of McPherson, Kan. She intends to major in pre-medicine at McPherson College.

Oklahoma duo joins Mac soccer
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Lyndsi Dooley of Sand Springs, Okla., and Sarah Story of Tulsa, Okla., to soccer letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year. Dooley and Story have been teammates at Charles Page High School in Sand Springs.

“We’re very excited to have these two young ladies joining the McPherson College soccer program next fall,” said McPherson College assistant soccer coach Alberto Magana. “Each will bring loads of soccer skills and experience. They both have great attitudes and are quite the pair to be around.

A four-year letter winner in soccer and twice in cross-country, Dooley was named the “Most Improved Player” for Charles Page HS following her senior season.

“Lyndsi is a defender/midfielder who tackles the ball well and has the skills to get out of pressure. She will dribble out of pressure and then distribute the ball. She has the ability to play either position and do a very good job.

The daughter of Alice and Don Dooley of Sand Springs, Lyndsi comes from a family with a collegiate athletic background. Her father ran track for Northwestern Oklahoma State University at Alva and her sister, Kyndal, currently play soccer at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla.

A 2003 graduate of Charles Page High School, Story has played goalie for more than four years.

“Sarah is a goalkeeper who is very controlling of the box. She is in command back there and will do anything to keep the ball out of the back of the net. She possess good skills as a keeper and we’re feel very confident with the thought of her defending our goal next fall.”

Sarah is the daughter of Vicki Story of Tulsa, Okla. and Douglas Story of South Bend, Ind. She too comes from a solid athletic background. Her father played collegiate golf for the University of Tulsa while her uncle was a kicker for the University of Florida Gators football team.

Two join Bulldog women's soccer
McPherson College has announced the intent of on-campus student-athletes Lindsay Gribble and Sarah Hoffman to join the Bulldogs soccer program for the 2003-2004 academic year.

A pair of 1999 McPherson High graduates, Hoffman and Gribble are products of the Bullpup program headed by McPherson College graduate Jim Post.

Gribble transferred to McPherson following two years at Butler County CC in ElDorado, Kan. The daughter of Vicki and Rick Johnston and Terry and Rita Gribble, Lindsay is majoring in psychology at McPherson.

“I’m very excited that Lindsay has made the commitment to help establish our program next fall,” said Quint. “She was one of the founding players of the McPherson High School program, and its very exciting to have her involved in providing a foundation here (at McPherson College) as well.”

Hoffman transferred to McPherson after one year at Manchester College in Indiana. An early childhood special education and elementary education major at McPherson, Hoffman comes from a strong McPherson College and Brethren college background. Her father, John ‘81, and mother, Sandra Sharp Hoffman ‘81, competed in tennis and track & field for McPherson. Sarah’s uncle and current McPherson College athletics director Daniel Hoffman and her grandfather Paul Hoffman, former McPherson College president, are both members of the Manchester College athletic hall of fame.

“Sarah is going to be the ‘mom’ of our program next season,” said Quint. “I say that because she is going to be the lone senior on our squad. I look for her maturity and experience to be vital for our young team as we establish the program.”

Guerrero signs with Mac soccer/basketball
McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Lucia Guerrero of McAllen, Texas, to soccer and basketball letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.

The 5’5” Guerrero posted 21 career shut-outs for McAllen High School.

“We are pleased to have Lucia joining our program,” said McPherson College assistant soccer coach Alberto Magana. “She brings experience as both a forward and a keeper to our program.”

“Lucia is a very ambitious young athlete that wants to be totally involved in the college experience,” said McPherson College head women’s basketball coach Mel Wright. “While I haven’t had the opportunity to see her play, I could tell by visiting with her that she has tremendous enthusiasm and is willing to work hard. We are pleased to have Lucia join us.”

The daughter of Adelina Mendez of McAllen, Texas, Guerrero’s grandfather and great-grandfather played professional soccer in Italy. Lucia intends to major in business at McPherson College.

On-campus signings for soccer
McPherson College head soccer coach Doug Quint has announced that three students on campus this semester will be part of the re-established Bulldog soccer program next fall. Joining the program will be Becky Amiot of Rockford, Ill., and Rylee Miller of Rangely, Colo.

A graduate of Winnebago High School in Winnebago, Ill., Amiot has returned to McPherson College where she was previously an All-KCAC soccer selection in 2000. “I’m so please to have Becky back with us,” said Quint. “She is technically sound, with great soccer knowledge and will be the anchor at center midfield for us. Becky gives us a good foundation to build around for next season. She is a very competitive person, who has a tremendous work ethic and love for the game. I really look for her to be an impact player and a leader during the remainder of her tenure here.” Amoit is the daughter of Naomi Powers of Rockford, Ill.

A 2002 McPherson College signee for volleyball and basketball, Miller will change fall sports in 2003. “Rylee jumped at the chance to play soccer when we announced the resumption of the program. She will provide us with much needed speed and dedication on the field. Rylee works extremely hard to maintain her physical condition and improve her athletic development. She is always working out and looking for ways to improve herself. I look for this dedication to rub off on all the new players in our program.” Miller is the daughter of Jeff and Paula Miller of Rangely, Colo.

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Nicole Harkins to a women’s soccer letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.

Scheduled for a May 2003 graduation from McPherson High School, Harkins, who carries a 3.92 GPA, was earlier named a McPherson College “Dean’s Scholar” for the upcoming school year.

A four-year participant in the McPherson High girls’ soccer program, Harkins will enter her senior season as a two-year letter winner. As a Mac High Bullpup, Harkin has logged most of her playing time for the McPherson High program on the defensive end of the field. McPherson High has moved quickly to the upper echelon of the state’s top Class 5A programs as it has qualified for back-to-back state tournament appearances, under the direction of McPherson College graduate Jim Post.

“We are excited to have Nicole become the first of what we hope will be a long line of (McPherson High) Bullpup soccer players becoming (McPherson College) Bulldogs in the years to come,” said McPherson College head coach Doug Quint. “Nicole is an excellent student as well as a solid soccer player. She is well acquainted with the college, and we appreciate the confidence Nicole is showing in us, as her coaches, and in the college, as it reestablishes its soccer programs.”

“With the success Jim (Post) has had (at McPherson High) and the quality of the players coming out of his programs, we are making the recruitment of McPherson High players a priority.”

Nicole is the daughter of Joe and Connie Harkins of McPherson, and will major in elementary education at McPherson College. The Harkins likely have September 10 marked on the family calendar. That is the date McPherson College will travel to Leavenworth to meet Saint Mary College in a KCAC match. The date will be extra special of the family since the Harkins’ older daughter Krissy was an honorable mention All-KCAC performer for the Lady Spires in 2002.
