(Oct. 2, 2007)
McPherson
College freshman goal keeper Andrea Swanson was named the NAIA Region
IV and KCAC Women's soccer “Defensive Player of the Week” for the
week of September 24-30, 2007.
Swanson was credited with
eight saves on eight shots on goal as the Lady Bulldogs shut-out
Manhattan Christian College (3-0), Tabor College (7-0), and Ottawa
(2-0).
On the week, Swanson turned
back two Manhattan Christian shots on goal, one shot by Tabor, and
five shots on goal by Ottawa while playing all 270 minutes in the
box.
The three shut-outs during
the past week extended her streak of shut-out wins to five, and
gives her a school record six on the season as the Lady Bulldogs
have compiled a 7-3 overall record, 3-0 in KCAC play.
“Andrea
is very deserving of this award, not only for her, but also
for our team,” said Doug Quint, McPherson
College head coach. “ She has been solid between the pipes
for us all year. We trust she is going to come up with big saves
when called upon to do so.”
“To break a school record
as a freshman with such a young team in front of her, going 450
minutes and counting without conceding a goal is quite an achievement.
I believe this is just a taste of things to come for this young
lady.”
Swanson is a 2007 graduate
of Heritage High School in Littleton, Colo.
