McPherson
soccer signs Colorado trio
McPherson College has announced
the recent signing of Alexys Hendrickson of Colorado
Springs, Colo., Amber McKinnon of Littleton, Colo.,
and Sara Roe of Greeley, Colo., to a women's soccer
letter of intent for the 2009-2010 school year.
As a coaching staff, we feel
Sara (Roe) will help keep our (defensive)back-four solid while Amber
(McKinnon) and Alexys (Hendrickson), combined with recently signed
midfielder Breana Jones, should give us more consistent goal scoring
productivity we lacked this past season. The coaching staff looks
forward to announcing more recruits in the coming weeks.
The
5'10” Hendrickson was a first team all-league
selection for Mitchell High School and coach Rich Sundahl following
her junior season. She was a second team all-league pick as a sophomore.
Following her freshman and junior interscholastic seasons, Hendrickson
was named to the All-Metro honorable mention squad.
Alexys has twice been named
Mitchell's most valuable offensive player. She has posted 34 goals
and 29 assists through her junior senior and set a Mitchell school
record with eight goals in one game.
“Alexys is my one player
that slipped under everyone's radar this recruiting season and I
couldn't be happier,” said Robert Talley, McPherson College head
women's coach. “She's got great size for a forward and a pace that
is going to be hard for any player in the defensive third to keep
up with. Alexys is a proven goal scorer both at the high school
and club level, and I expect her to jump into our forward rotation
immediately this fall.
Alexys is the daughter of Jennifer
Davis. She plans to a biochemistry/pre-med major.
Alexys
Hendrickson was joined for her letter of intent signing by McPheson
College head women's coach Robert Talley.
McKinnon
has played her interscholastic soccer at Littleton Arapahoe High
School for coach Kirk Bast.
Amber compiled 37 goals and
29 assists in her first three prep seasons, and was named Arapahoe's
MVP Forward as a sophomore and junior.
“Amber comes from a long
line of quality players who've graduated from Arapahoe High School,”
said Talley. “When I first saw Amber play I was excited about the
possibility of her becoming part of our attacking third in the forward
position.”
“She has a strong work ethic
and determination to get to the goal at any cost. Her statistics
demonstrate her ability to finish as well as assist others in front
of the net. I'm looking for Amber to be a big impact player for
this program the next four years.”
Amber is the daughter of Ron and Jackie
McKinnon of Littleton . She plans to major business.
Amber
McKinnon is joined for her letter of intent signing by (standing,
left) mother Jackie McKinnon, Trevor Holbrook, club coach, McPherson
College head coach Robert Talley, and father Ron McKinnon.
Roe
has been a fixture as a defensive back for Greeley Northridge
High School. She was named Academic All-Conference and to the Academic
All-State honorable mention squads following her 2008 season under
coach Steve Brubacher.
“Sara will give us the
added depth we need in the defensive third,” said Talley. “I have
two spots to fill for outside backs and was looking for someone
to step up and fill the void.”
“Sara demonstrates a good
read for the game and an ability to adjust quickly to the speed
of play. We're looking for Sara to step up and challenge the returnees
for playing time this fall.”
Sara is the daughter of Janine
Walker and Darren Roe of Greeley, Colo. She plans to major in biology/pre-physical
therapy.
