Nuss named NAIA All-America
Scholar-Athlete
McPherson College 's LouAna
Nuss was recently named a 2004 Daktronics- NAIA All-America Scholar-Athlete.
A
first team All-KCAC and NAIA Region IV pitcher in 2003, Nuss was
earlier was named to the All-KCAC honorable mention team after receiving
NAIA Region IV “Pitcher of the Week” honors for the week of April
19-26, 2004 .
Prior to receiving the NAIA
Region “Pitcher of the Week” award this spring, Nuss had been named
the KCAC's “Pitcher of the Week” for the same week.
On May 23, 2004 , Nuss received
her bachelor's degree in elementary education from McPherson.
A 2000 graduate of Abilene
High School , Nuss transferred to McPherson College from Neosho
County CC in the fall of 2002.
During her time at Neosho
County CC , Nuss was also named an NJCAA scholastic All-American.
LouAna is the daughter of
Jim and Maria Nuss of Abilene , Kan.

Seven
earn All-KCAC recognition
Freshman Laura Reed
led the way as seven McPherson College Lady Bulldogs were
selected for All-KCAC softball honors for the recently ended 2004
season.
Joining Reed on the All-KCAC
squad were seniors LouAna Nuss , Lisa Salazar
, and Juli Greep , junior Matapony
Collette , sophomore Darci Davison , and
freshman Jamie Schropp , all of who earned honorable
mention recognition.
Reed
(Freshman, Shortstop/3 rd Base, Salina, Kan./Gypsum-Southeast of
Saline HS) led McPherson in hitting, averaging .325 through 37 games
this spring. One of the top offensive threats in the KCAC, she ranked
second in runs scored and triples per game, third in doubles, fifth
in hits per game, and sixth in home runs. She also topped McPherson
with 27 runs scored and 41 base hits, including team highs of 11
doubles, five triples, and two home runs. Her .540 slugging percentage
also was the Lady Bulldogs' high. She ranked second among the Lady
Bulldogs with 14 RBIs.
Nuss
(Senior, Pitcher, Abilene , Kan. / Neosho County CC) led the Lady
Bulldog pitching staff with 10 wins. She also led McPherson with
an ERA of 2.46, which ranked sixth in the KCAC, in 116 innings pitched.
She topped McPherson with 90 strike outs while walking only 21 batters.
Her 6.62 strike outs per game ranked sixth in the conference. LouAna
was a NAIA Region IV and a unanimous All-KCAC first team choice
in 2003.
Salazar
(Senior, Outfielder, Brownsville , Tex. /Rivera HS) hit .305 in
36 games. She was McPherson's seconding leading hitter with a .305
batting average and her 32 total hits also ranked second for the
Lady Bulldogs. She had three doubles and a triple, and her 13 RBIs
ranked third among the Bulldogs. Lisa completed her Lady Bulldog
career as a four-time honorable mention All-KCAC pick, having received
the recognition in 2001, 2002, and 2003 as well as this season.
Greep
(Senior, Infielder/Designated Hitter, Nickerson , Kan. /Nickerson
HS) was the Bulldogs' third leading hitter with an average of .290.
Her .290 batting average tied for third on the McPherson squad.
Juli contributed three doubles, and ranked third among the Lady
Bulldogs in draws drawn with 10 and on-base-percentage at .355.
Juli was an All-KCAC first team selection in 2003 after being an
honorable mention selection in 2001 and 2002.
Collette
(Junior, Catcher, Lecompton, Kan./Perry-Lecompton HS) led McPherson
with 21 runs batted in, which ranked eighth in the KCAC, and ranked
sixth in doubles per game. She hit for an average of .255. She was
second among the Lady Bulldogs with seven doubles. She was moved
into the catching position on a fulltime basis midway through the
season. Tappy was named to the All-KCAC first team in 2003 after
being an honorable mention pick in 2002.
Davison
(Sophomore, 1 st Base, McPherson , Kan. / Emporia State University)
hit .250, with a slugging percentage of .327. She contributed two
double and a triple along with nine runs and five RBIs. She committed
only one error while recording a team high 133 put outs.
Schropp
(Freshman, Pitcher, Salina, Kan./Gypsum-Southeast of Saline HS)
led McPherson's pitching staff by holding the opposing bats to a
.261 batting average. She struck out 89 batters and walked 33 on
her way to a 3.01 ERA and holding opposing batters to a .261 batting
average. Her 6.97 strike outs per game ranked fourth in the KCAC.
She posted an 8-11 record in her first season of intercollegiate
play. At the plate, she had one double and one RBI in her five official
appearances at bat, but also walked three times and scored four
runs.
McPherson College finished
the season with an 20-19 record, including a pair of forfeit from
Oklahoma Wesleyan, and 8-8 in KCAC play, good for fifth place. The
Lady Bulldogs' 18 wins equaled the school record for wins in a season
set in 2003 when McPherson College was co-KCAC regular season champions.

Collette and Nuss sweep KCAC softball honors
McPherson College’s
Matapony Collette and LouAna Nuss were named the KCAC’s “Player”
and “Pitcher of the Week” for the week of April 19-25,
2004.
Collette, junior catcher from Perry-Lecompton High School and Lecompton, Kan., hit .600 in four games as the Lady Bulldogs swept a pair of KCAC doubleheaders with road wins at Ottawa (W 4-0, W 9-8) and Tabor (W 4-1, W 7-3).
For the week, Collette had a total of nine hits in 15 at bats, with nine runs batted in. She also scored twice.
Against Ottawa, Collette went three of four and four of five with six runs batted in. Against Tabor, she was one of four and one for two with three rbi’s and a pair of doubles.
Collette was previously named “Player of the Week” for the week of March 15-22.
Tappy is the daughter of Ron and Denise Collette of Lecompton, Kans. She is a business administration major at McPherson College.
Nuss, senior right-hander from Abilene High School and Abilene, Kan. transferred to McPherson College from Neosho County CC for the fall semester of 2002.
Last week Nuss went 3-0 with two wins over Ottawa University and one over Tabor College.
In three games pitched, she gave up only one run, and 10 hits while striking out 12 and walking four. Her earned run average for the week was a miniscule 0.467.
Against Ottawa, she won the opening game of the doubleheader, 4-0, and gave up four hits while striking out six and walking three. She then came back to pitch one inning in relief in the nightcap and was credited with the Lady Bulldogs 9-8 win when she shut the door on the Lady Braves.
Against Tabor, Nuss pitched a six-hit, six-strike out, one-walk complete game for the 4-1 victory, her tenth of the season.
Nuss was an All-KCAC and NAIA Region IV first team selection in 2003.
LouAna is the daughter of Jim and Maria Nuss of Abilene, Kan. She is an elementary education major.
McPherson’s four wins raised the Lady Bulldogs’ season record to 18-15 entering the final week of the KCAC regular season.
The honors are the third and fourth weekly honors received by Lady Bulldogs this spring. McPherson freshman Jamie Schropp was earlier named KCAC “Pitcher of the Week” for the week of March 8-14.
Collette named "KCAC Player of the Week"
Matapony Collette, McPherson College catcher, was named KCAC “Player of the Week” for the week of March 15-21.
Collette, a junior from Perry-Lecompton High School and Lecompton, Kan., hit .350 in six games as the Lady Bulldogs split a KCAC doubleheader with Southwestern before going four and one in the Sterling Invitational on Friday and Saturday to raise their season record to 11-6.
Matapony opened the week with a perfect 3 for 3 performance at the plate as McPherson beat Southwestern 2-1.
For the week, Collette drove in five runs and scored twice and contributed two extra base hits, both doubles, to the Bulldogs’ cause. She currently ranks fifth among KCAC players in doubles hit per game
Tappy is the Ron and Denise Collette of Lecompton, Kans. She is a business administration major at McPherson College.
Schropp named “KCAC Pitcher of the Week”
Jamie Schropp, McPherson College freshmanr pitcher, was named KCAC “Pitcher of the Week” for the week of March 8-14. the Gypsum-Southeast of Saline High School graduate was two and two games during week as the Lady Bulldogs went 5-3, including a 5-1 record in the Bulldog Classic.
Schropp opened the week by giving up five hits and one earned run while striking out five as the Bulldogs dropped a 3-0 decision to NAIA Region IV ranked Newman University, in a non-conference contest.
In three Bulldog Clasic contests, she pitched the Lady Bulldogs to a 2-1 win over Tabor College, and an 8-0 shut-out win of Central Christian College, before losing a 5-1 decision to William Jewell College of Liberty, Mo.
Against Tabor, Schropp gave up only one hit and struck out two, then came back to shut out Central Christian on two hits while picking up five strike-outs. In the loss to William Jewell, she gave up nine hits while striking out four.
For the week, Schropp struck out 16 while walking only four, and posted an earned run average of 1.93.
Entering conference play this week, she leads the defending regular season KCAC co-champion lady Bulldogs with a 1.56 ERA and 3-2 record, having given up seven earned runs on 23 hits, 24 strike outs, and five walks in 31 innings pitched.
Schropp led Southeast of Saline to the Class 3A state title game last season on her way to earning All-State recognition.
Jamie is the daughter of Jackie and Lonny Schropp of Assaria, Kans., and plans to be a pre-med major at McPherson College.
