2004 Signings
The following is a list of all signings for the 2004 season starting with the most recent signing.


Loyd signs with Bulldog softball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Tara Loyd of Boise City, Okla. and Coffeyville Community College, to a softball letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.  Loyd was a 2001 graduate of Boise City High School, where she won “Newcomer of the Year” and “Offensive Player of the Year” honors.  A four-year letterwinner in both softball and track, she twice placed third in the discus at the Oklahoma State High School track and field championships. “When we first began offering scholarship money in softball a couple of years ago,” said McPherson College head coach Mike McCormick, “Tara was one our original recruits.” “We are really pleased that she has decided to play out her final years of eligibility with the Bulldogs.” Loyd played two years of softball at Coffeyville CC, where she was a member of the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa. Tara comes from an athletic family.  Her mother played basketball for Phillip’s University while her family competed at Grayson County CC and Phillip’s University in baseball.  She is the daughter of Richard and Linda Loyd of Boise City.  She intends to major in business at McPherson College with a career goal in the area of marketing.

Goddard’s Koharchik signs for softball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Kimberly Koharchik of Wichita, Kan., to a softball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year. An honor roll student at Goddard High School, Koharchik has been the starting centerfielder for the Lady Lions. “We are pleased to have Kim joining our program,” said McPherson College head softball coach mike McCormick.  “She is quick, and has good fundamental skills.  She is capable of coming in next fall and challenging for playing time in our outfield.” Kimberly is the daughter of Andy and Bernice Koharchik of Wichita, Kan.  She intends to major in bio-chemistry at McPherson College with a career goal of becoming a physician’s assistant.

Sacred Heart’s Vermillion joins Bulldogs

Joining Sarah Vermillion in her letter of intent signing with McPherson College are her father, Russell, and mother, Cindy Vermillion.

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Sarah Vermillion of Salina, Kans., to volleyball and softball letters of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.  “I really liked what I’ve seen of Sarah on the field,” said McPherson College softball coach Mike McCormick.  “She’s been basically an infielder, but we may move her to the outfield since that will be a area we’ll need more help with in the future.” “We’re pleased to add Sarah to the solid group of young ladies we have joining our program.” Vermillion was selected for Sacred Heart’s “most improved” volleyball player award following her senior season. “Sarah comes from a very good program at Sacred Heart,” said McPherson College volleyball coach Nathalea Stephenson.  “It is a program that has been at the state tournament for several years, and has a great tradition.  Coming from a program like that, Sarah knows what it takes to be successful. “Sarah is a very hard working young lady that will bring very good skills to our program.  She sees the court well and can read the hitters, knowing where they are going to put the ball.  She should be a very good defensive specialist for us. “Sarah is a very coachable young lady, as well as a good student.  We’re very pleased to have her join us.” Sarah is the daughter of Russell and Cindy Vermillion of Salina, Kans., and intends to major in education with an emphasis in special education at McPherson College.

Davison signs with Mac

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Darci Davison to a softball letter of intent for the 2003-2004 academic year.  A 2002 graduate of McPherson High School, Davison will transfer to McPherson College from Emporia State University and major in elementary education. “I visited (McPherson College) and really liked it,” said Davison.  “I’m excited about coming home and being a part of an improving program.” A three-year letter winner for McPherson High, Davison was an All-Ark Valley League first baseman following her senior season under coach Christy Dole. Davison was coached for six years on age group, summer club teams by McPherson College head coach Mike McCormick.  The 2000 team won the ASA Kansas state championship. “Darci is going to be a big asset to our team as a first baseman and outfielder,” said McCormick.  “She knows the game and works hard.  She has been part of a good high school program and has played a high level of club ball in the summers. “She is a good person, and we’re excited to have her as the first McPherson High athlete to join the McPherson College softball program.   First base is a position we need to fill for next season, and Darci has the ability to step in and play right away.” Darci is the daughter of Rich and Debbie Davison of McPherson.   [A 300 dpi file of Davison’s signing is attached.  Pictured are: Front row, Rich Davison (father), Darci Davison, Debbie Davison (mother),  Back row, Angie Gribble (McPherson College admissions counselor for McPherson and surrounding counties and transfer students), Mike McCormick (McPherson College head softball coach), Ryne Davison (brother).]

Rodriguez joins Lady Bulldog softball

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Jamie Rodriguez of Oklahoma City, Okla., to a softball letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.  A two-time honorable mention Oklahoma All-State performer in softball, Rodriguez batted .312 during the fall season of her senior year, and as a catcher, won the school’s annual “Best Defensive Player” award for a fourth time this past season.

                A four-year letter winner in both softball and basketball at Mount St. Mary High School in Oklahoma City, Rodriguez recently competed for McPherson College’s highest academic award, the Presidential Scholarship.   “Jamie is an outstanding catcher plus an exceptional student,” said McPherson College head coach Mike McCormick about the two-time all-conference catcher.  “Her ability in the classroom is evident by the fact she was invited to compete for the Presidential Scholarship.  And, I believe she has the athletic skills to challenge for a starting spot behind the plate next season.”                “We have concentrated our recruiting on getting young ladies who are capable of meeting the academic challenge of the college classroom as well as the intercollegiate playing field.  Jamie definitely fits that description.  We are very excited about having her become a Lady Bulldog.”                Rodriguez’ .466 on-base percentage this past fall ranked second for the MSM Rockets softball team.  An honorable mention Oklahoma All-State honoree in basketball after her junior season when she led the Rockets in assists, the 5’5” Rodriguez has averaged 12.5 points per game this winter as a senior.Jamie is the daughter of Jaime and Ruth Rodriguez of Oklahoma City and plans to be a pre-med major at McPherson College.  She continues a tradition of outstanding student-athletes who have come to McPherson College from Mount St. Mary High School, a tradition that included Dan and Pat Noyes as well as Jamar Turner, current member of the Bulldog basketball team.

Schropp signs on with Lady Bulldogs

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Jamie Schropp of Assaria, Kans., to a softball letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.  A two-time All-NCAA (North Central Activities Association) performer in softball for Southeast of Saline High School, she was also named All-NCAA in basketball following her junior year.

            “I believe Jamie will come in and, immediately, be an impact player on our pitching staff,” said McPherson College head coach Mike McCormick.  “She is a hard throwing right-hander who has had a lot of success at Southeast (of Saline) as a pitcher as well as a student.” Schropp helped lead SE of Saline to third and fourth place finishes in the 2002 and 2001 KSHSAA Class 3A state tournaments.  She had an 8-2 win-loss record as a junior with an ERA of 1.08.  In 71.3 innings pitched last spring, she struck out 49, walked 29, and limited the opposing batters to a 0.178 batting average. Jamie is the daughter of Jackie and Lonny Schropp of Assaria, Kans., and plans to be a pre-med major at McPherson College.

Reed signs to join Lady Bulldogs

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Laura L. Reed of Salina, Kans., to a softball letter of intent for the 2003-04 academic year.  A two-time All-NCAA (North Central Activities Association) performer in softball for Southeast of Saline High School, she was also an honorable mention all-league performer in both volleyball and basketball following her sophomore and junior years.

            “I believe Laura has the skills to come in and contribute to our program right away,” said McPherson College head coach Mike McCormick.  “She has played in a good high school program as well as for a summer team that won the national AFA (American Fast pitch Association) tournament in Salina this past year.  She has the ability to step in a play short(stop), second, or third.  I feel very fortunate to have a fine athlete like Laura joining our program next fall.  I believe she will play a big part in our run for the KCAC trophy over the next four years.” Reed helped lead SE of Saline to third and fourth place finishes in the 2002 and 2001 KSHSAA Class 3A state tournaments.  She is a member of the SE of Saline chapter of National Honor Society, and has served as president of Big Brothers & Big Sisters.  A four-year member of Varsity Club at Southeast, she is serving as vice-president her senior year. Laura is the daughter of Janet and Lynn Reed of Salina, and plans to be a pre-med major at McPherson College.

Hill signs to join Lady Bulldogs

McPherson College has announced the recent signing of Katie C. Hill of Alma, Kans., to a softball letter of intent for the 2002-03 academic year.  An honorable mention Mid-East League performer for Alma-Wabaunsee High School at the conclusion of her junior season, Hill was recently named a McPherson College Presidential Scholar for the Fall of 2003.

            “I am real excited about Katie joining our program,” said McPherson College head coach Mike McCormick.  “She is an excellent student as well as a solid ball player.  We believe we have a the nucleus in place to make a run at a KCAC trophy, and Katie is another piece to the puzzle as we develop the depth we need to compete year-in and year-out.” Hill is expected to battle for playing time as a first baseman, or possibly as an outfielder.   She has compiled a career on base average of .360 along with a .943 fielding percentage and a .250 batting average.  Treasurer of the Wabaunsee High chapter of the National Honor Society, Hill had previously been named a Presidential Scholar by Wichita State University, and recognized as a Kansas Honor Scholar by the University of Kansas.  At the conclusion of her junior year, she was the Wabaunsee High recipient of the Bausch & Lomb Science Award as the school’s outstanding science/math student.  A 3.96 GPA student at Wabaunsee High, Hill plans to major in history at McPherson College. A Big Brother & Big Sister volunteer, she has also worked as a volunteer for the Kansas Historical Society and the Wabaunsee County Historical Museum.  Katie is the daughter of Dorinda and Allen Brucken of Alma.
