Viehman
and Yungeberg named KCAC Players of the Week
McPherson College's Erikka
Viehman and Mallory Yungeberg were named KCAC Softball Player and
Pitcher of the Week for their performances during the week of March
13, as the Lady Bulldogs posted a 2-1 record in the weather shortened
Sterling Invitational Tournament.
Erikka
Viehman (5-8, freshman from Gunnison , Colo. ) had two
home runs in the Bulldogs' 3-2 loss to Graceland University . She
followed with a two-hit, four-rbi performance including a three-run
over-the-fence home run as McPherson defeated Oklahoma Weslyan,
9-0. Viehman then finished off her day with a one-hit, one-rbi performance
as McPherson turned back Newman University , 7-3.
On the day, Viehman was four
of seven at the plate with three home runs and driving in seven
runs.
Viehman currently leads the
Lady Bulldogs with a .419 batting average and 15 runs batted in,
and a .871 slugging percentage in 13 games played.
Mallory
Yungeberg (5-5, sophomore from Waterville , Kan. , and
Blue Rapids-Valley Heights High School ) pitched the first no-hitter
in McPherson College softball history, blanking Oklahoma Wesleyan
University , 9-0.
Yungeberg faced just two
over the minimum 15 batters in the five-inning, time-limit shortened
contest. She struck out three and walked none, while allowing only
two balls to be hit out of the infield in picking up her first win
of the season.
Yungeberg's teammates backed
her with an 11-hit attack while committing two errors.
McPherson now stands 6-7
on the season.
