McPherson College juniors
Courtney Bersuch and Whitney Coleman, and senior Shalyn Skalhill
have been named to the 2007 NAIA All-Region IV softball team.
“While Shalyn has been part
of our program for two years, all three have made a significant
impact on our program as junior college transfers,” said McPherson
College head coach Mike McCormick. “They have come in and immediately
assumed a leadership role, and helped lead us to a record year (as
the Bulldogs tied the school record of 20 wins in a season).”
Courtney
Bersuch (Jr., McPherson, Kan., unanimous All-KCAC first team
catcher) finished the KCAC regular season with a .405 batting average
for conference play. Led the KCAC with a .976 slugging percentage,
and in double with seven, in conference play. Started 39 of 41 games
played. Hit .348 for the 2007 season with 39 hits including a team
high 12 doubles. Scored a team high 31 runs. Had two triples, six
home runs, and 23 runs batted in. Drew a team high 15 base-on-balls.
Posted a .981 field average with only three errors.
Whitney
Coleman (Jr., Douglass, Kan. unanimous All-KCAC first team first
baseman) led McPherson with 40 base hits for the 2007 season. Had
a conference high and set a new McPherson College school single
season record with 13 home runs. Ranked second in the conference
with a .900 slugging percentage in KCAC play. Hit for a .357 total
season average. Had 10 doubles, one triple, and a team high 31 runs
batted in. Scored 30 runs and drew 11 walks to rank second among
the Bulldogs in both categories. Started 40 of 41 games played.
Recorded a team high 194 put outs, with a .981 fielding percentage.
Shalyn
Skalhill (Sr., Diamond Bar, Calif., unanimous All-KCAC first
team outfielder) ranked fifth in on-base percentage and seventh
in batting during the KCAC regular season with averages of .524
and .444, respectively. Finished the season with a .365 batting
average, ranked third among the Lady Bulldogs in hits with 38. Had
eight doubles, one triple, six home runs, and 26 runs driven in.
Was an honorable mention All-KCAC selection in 2006.
McPherson College juniors
Courtney Bersuch and Whitney Coleman ,
and senior Shalyn Skalhill were unanimous selections
to the 2007 All-KCAC softball first team in a recent vote of the
conference's coaches. Sophomore Erikka Viehman
was also selected to the first team as a designated player.
Bersuch was also named the 2007 KCAC “Newcomer of the Year.”

Junior Leah Heide
was named to the All-KCAC honorable mention squad to round
out the Lady Bulldog selections.
“We are very pleased to have
all of these young women recognized this way,” said McPherson College
head coach Mike McCormick. “They worked hard to earn these awards
and they are well deserved.”

Erikka
Viehman (Soph., Gunnison, Colo., All-KCAC first team designated
player) is a two-time All-KCAC first team selection. Battled through
injuries to hit .309 in 28 games. Had six doubles, a triple, and
two home runs. Credited with 13 rbi. Hit by pitches a team high
three times. Was selected to the 2006 NAIA All-Region IV team as
a third baseman.
Second Team All-KCAC
Jessica
DeCavelle (Sr., Paola, Kan., All-KCAC second team second
baseman) hit for an average of .280 in 40 games started. Made a
team high 125 appearances at the plate. Credited with seven doubles,
two triple, two home runs, and 20 runs batted in. Ranked third among
the Bulldogs with 29 runs scored. Was a second team All-KCAC selection
as a junior after receiving honorable mention All-KCAC recognition
in 2005.
Abby
Evans (Jr., Council Grove, Kan., All-KCAC second team
shortstop) was third among the Lady Bulldogs in hitting with an
average of .372 for 32 games. 29 hits included six doubles, one
triple and a home run. Was a second team All-KCAC pick in 2006.
Jessica
Yates (Soph., Silver Lake, Kan., All-KCAC second team
pitcher) led McPherson with a 13-9 win-loss record. Completed season
with an ERA of 3.15 and 19 complete games. Ranked second on the
team with 50 defensive assists. Had 20 hits including four doubles
and three home runs, and 20 runs batted in 80 appearances at the
plate. A second team All-KCAC second team selection in 2006.
Honorable Mention All-KCAC
Leah
Heide (Jr., Buhler Kan., honorable mention All-KCAC third
baseman) hit for an average of .370 to rank fourth among the Lady
Bulldogs for the 2007 season. Drove in 11 runs. Had 27 hits in 32
games played including four doubles. Posted a .913 fielding average
with a team high 56 assists.
