Koch,
Bersuch named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
Carrie Koch, senior from
Arvada, Colo., and Courtney Bersuch, senior from McPherson, Kan.,
were recently named NAIA-Daktronics softball Scholar-Athletes for
the 2008 season.
Koch was previously named
to the NAIA-Daktronics squad in 2007 while Bersuch became eligible
for the award for the first time in 2008 after transferring from
Pratt Community College last year.
“It's good to see these ladies recognized
for their work in the classroom as well as on the field,” said McPherson
head coach Mike McCormick. “Both a examples of the well-rounded
individuals, athletically and academically, we like to have in our
program.”
A
2004 graduate of D'Evelyn High School in Denver, Colo., Koch
is physical education major.
This past season, Koch played
in 26 games, starting 25, for the Lady Bulldogs. She hit for an
average of .219, with four doubles and 12 runs batted in. She scored
9 runs, and was successful on all six stolen base attempts. Koch
earlier was named to the 2008 honorable mention All-KCAC team.
Bersuch,
a business administration/accounting major at McPherson College,
was a 2004 graduate of McPherson High School.
Courtney led Region IV and
the KCAC in batting average, finishing the season ranked 8 th nationally
among NAIA players with a 0.492 average. She also led the KCAC with
seven regular season home runs. Her 0.963 slugging percentage led
the conference regular season and she completed the 2008 season
ranked 6 th in the NAIA. A starter in 28 of 29 games played, she
was recognized as the NAIA “National Player of the Week” for the
week of March 19 th .
Bersuch set McPherson College
school single season records for slugging percentage (0.921), base
on balls (17), and on base percentage (0.619). She also ended the
season as the Lady Bulldogs' leader in batting average (0.492),
runs scored (22), hits (tied with 31), home runs (7), runs batted
in (28), total bases (58), hit by pitches (4), stolen bases (8),
and was second in doubles (6).
Courtney was named the KCAC
“Newcomer of the Year” last year after her transfer from Pratt Community
College and was named to All-Region IV team and the All-KCAC first
team as a catcher in both of her collegiate seasons with the Lady
Bulldogs.
Recipients of the Daktronics-NAIA
Scholar-Athlete award must have a minimum grade point average of
3.50 on a 4.00 scale, be a junior or above in academic standings,
and been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of
one full school year.

Bersuch
named to All-Region IV team
McPherson College senior
Courtney Bersuch was named to the 2008 NAIA All-Region
IV softball team in a recent vote of the region's coaches.
This is Bersuch's second
appearance on the All-Region first team in her two years at McPherson
College.
“We are really happy for
Courtney to receive this honor,” said McPherson College head coach
Mike McCormick. “She worked hard in the off-season to prepare for
a great senior season, and the honors are well deserved.”
Courtney

Region IV and the KCAC while finishing the season ranked 8th in

Bersuch'
named 1st team All-KCAC softball
McPherson College senior
Courtney Bersuch was named to the 2008 All-KCAC
softball first team in a recent vote of the conference's coaches.
2008 marked Bersuch's second appearance on the all-conference first
team.
Senior Leah Heide
was named to the second team while six Lady Bulldogs were
named to the All-KCAC honorable mention squad. Receiving honorable
mention recognition were Katie Sorensen , Whitney
Coleman , Kristen Ozbun , Amy
Ziegler , Mallory Yungeberg , and Carrie
Koch .
“We are very pleased to have
all of these young women recognized this way,” said McPherson College
head coach Mike McCormick. “They worked hard to earn these awards
and they are well deserved.”

First Team

All-KCAC 2nd Team
Leah Heide
(Sr., Buhler Kan., Pratt CC, All-KCAC second team third baseman)
hit for an average of .323 to rank fourth among the Lady Bulldogs
for the 2008 season. Her 21 hits including three doubles and she
drove in 10 runs. Heide's 10 walks ranked second on the McPherson
team and she ranked second with an on-base percentage of 0.403.
Honorable Mention
Whitney Coleman
(Jr., Douglass, Kan., Pratt CC, first baseman) tied for third in
the KCAC with five regular season home runs. A starter in all 30
games played, she led the Bulldogs with eight doubles, and 87 official
times at bats. Following the KCAC post-season tournament, Whitney
was second among the Bulldogs with six home runs, 23 runs batted
in, and with 53 total bases. Her 0.609 slugging percentage was #2
on the McPherson team, and her batting average of 0.310 ranked fifth.
Whitney's 27 hits on the year ranked third on the McPherson squad.
Coleman
was named to the All-KCAC first team in 2007, her first season with
the Bulldogs, after hitting a school single season record 13 home
runs.
Katie Sorensen
(Jr. Gunnison, Colo., Oklahoma Baptist University, shortstop) tied
for fifth in the KCAC with three triples, and was second in triples
per game with an average of 0.12. Katie's 31 hits tied for the McPherson
season lead and her 0.365 batting average was third among the Lady
Bulldogs. Sorenson scored 16 runs, and had five doubles to go along
with her team high three triples. Her 0.494 slugging percentage
was third among the Bulldogs.
Kristen Ozbun
(So., Rose Hill, Kan., centerfielder) tied for ninth in the conference
with two triples and was 8 th in triples per game (0.09). Coming
off surgery and rehabilitation for a torn ACL, which kept her off
the basketball court this past season, Ozbun scored 20 runs, second
best among the Bulldogs. She had three doubles, two triples, and
two home runs. Kristen drove in 10 runs and was a perfect two for
two on stolen base attempts.
Amy Ziegler (Jr.,
Hudson, Colo., Standley Lake HS, pitcher) hit for an average of
0.250. Amy compiled a 4-9 win-loss record on the mound as the Bulldogs'
second starter. She struck out 32 while walking 29. She led McPherson
with an ERA of 6.14.
Mallory Yungeberg
( Sr., Waterville, Kan., Blue Rapid HS, pitcher) hit 0.250
with one home run. Mallory's win-loss record as the Bulldogs' main
starter on the mound was 5-12.
Carrie Koch
(Sr., Arvada, Colo., D'Evelyn HS, rightfielder) hit 0.219 with 14
hits including four doubles, and 12 runs driven in. Carrie ranked
second among the Bulldogs with six stolen bases on six attempts.
