Bersuch
named NAIA Softball Player of the Week

– Courtney Bersuch of McPherson (Kan.) was awarded the NAIA Softball
Player of the Week while Brittiany Johnson of Trevecca Nazarene
(Tenn.) has been selected as the NAIA Softball Pitcher of the Week
for March 10-16.
Bersuch,
a 5-3 senior catcher from McPherson, Kan., had a perfect week in
the batter's box. In three home wins for MC, Bersuch went 8-for-8
with 14 RBI, three homers and seven runs scored. She also added
four doubles as McPherson out-scored its opposition 35-7 in three
games.
Johnson,
a 5-10 senior pitcher from Pulaski, Tenn ., notched four wins in
five appearances last week. She extended her streak this year to
33 innings without allowing an earned run. In her five games, she
went 22.0 innings giving up just nine base hits and two runs while
fanning 31 batters. In her first game, she gave up zero hits in
three innings to earn the victory. On the season, Johnson now stands
with 55 whiffs in 33 innings.

Bersuch
named KCAC and Region IV “Player of the Week”
McPherson College catcher
Courtney Bersuch was named the KCAC and NAIA Region IV softball
“Player of the Week” for her play during the week of March 10-16,
2008.
Bersuch finished the week
a perfect eight for eight at the plate with four doubles, three
home runs, 14 runs batted in, and seven runs scored in three games
played.
Courtney
opened the Lady Bulldogs' week on Wednesday with 2 home runs, a
double, four runs scored, and six runs batted in while going three
for three as McPherson turned back Sterling, 12-3, in the KCAC regular
season opener.
In the nightcap of the Sterling
doubleheader, Bersuch was again three for three at the plate, with
two doubles, a walk, one run scored, and three runs batted in as
the Bulldogs completed the doubleheader sweep with an 8-3 win.
After sitting out the Bulldogs'
opening game of the Sterling tournament on Friday, Bersuch returned
to her regular catching position, and responded by going two for
two at the plate with two runs scored and five runs batted in on
a double and her fifth home run of the season, plus a walk when
hit by a pitch, as the Lady Bulldogs routed Southwestern 15-1.
The Bulldogs' 3-1 week raised
their season record to 4-5. After a week off for mid-term exams,
the Bulldogs will travel to Tucson , Ariz. , where they will play
six games during their spring break trip.
Bersuch was a 2004 graduate
of McPherson High School . A transfer from Pratt Community College
, she is majoring in business administration/accounting.
