2009 Honors

Ozbun named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete

Kristen Ozbun, junior from Rose Hill, Kan., and a 2006 graduate of Rose Hill High School , was recently named NAIA/Daktronics softball Scholar-Athlete for the 2009 season.

Ozbun has been a three-year starter in the outfield for the Bulldogs.

“Kristen is very deserving of this award,” said Mike McCormick, McPherson head coach. “She is a leader, both in the classroom and on the field.”

Ozbun was second team All-KCAC selection following the 2009 season when she hit for a 0.284 batting average with 25 hits including seven doubles, one triple, and two home runs, scored 14 runs, stolen seven bases, and drove in 11 runs in 35 games played. Kristen had earlier been named an honorable mention All-KCAC honoree as a sophomore.

A two-sport letter winner, Ozbun is a pre-physical therapy major. She missed the 2008 basketball season following surgery for a torn ACL. She then returned to the softball diamond that spring to earn honorable mention All-KCAC honors as a sophomore.

Recipients of the Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete award must have a minimum grade point average of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale, be a junior or above in academic standings, and been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full school year.
