Ozbun
named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete
Kristen Ozbun, junior from
Rose Hill, Kan., and a 2006 graduate of Rose Hill High School ,
was recently named NAIA/Daktronics softball Scholar-Athlete for
the 2009 season.
Ozbun
has been a three-year starter in the outfield for the Bulldogs.
“Kristen is very deserving
of this award,” said Mike McCormick, McPherson head coach. “She
is a leader, both in the classroom and on the field.”
Ozbun was second team All-KCAC
selection following the 2009 season when she hit for a 0.284 batting
average with 25 hits including seven doubles, one triple, and two
home runs, scored 14 runs, stolen seven bases, and drove in 11 runs
in 35 games played. Kristen had earlier been named an honorable
mention All-KCAC honoree as a sophomore.
A two-sport letter winner,
Ozbun is a pre-physical therapy major. She missed the 2008 basketball
season following surgery for a torn ACL. She then returned to the
softball diamond that spring to earn honorable mention All-KCAC
honors as a sophomore.
Recipients of the Daktronics-NAIA
Scholar-Athlete award must have a minimum grade point average of
3.50 on a 4.00 scale, be a junior or above in academic standings,
and been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of
one full school year.

Bulldogs named softball All-KCAC
Four members of the McPherson
College softball team were named to the 2008 All-KCAC softball second
team in a recent vote of the conference's coaches.
Seniors Erikka Viehman
and Katie Sorensen were joined by junior Kristen
Ozbun and freshman Katie Logan on the
all-conference second team while three Lady Bulldogs were named
to the All-KCAC honorable mention squad. Receiving honorable mention
recognition were sophomore Kelsey Gray and freshmen Andrea
Falk and Sadie Green.
“We are very pleased to have
all of these young women recognized,” said McPherson College head
coach Mike McCormick. “They worked hard to earn these awards and
they are well deserved.”

Erikka Viehman (Sr.,
Gunnison, Colo., Gunnison HS, third baseman) led McPherson in home
runs (11), runs batted in (30), walks (14), and tied for the team
lead in runs scored (24). She finished the KCAC regular season ranked
first in the conference in home runs per game (0.33), second in
total home runs (11) and slugging percentage (0.758), third in runs
batted in per game (0.88), tied for third in total triples (1),
fifth in walks drawn per game (0.42), tied for sixth in triples
per game (0.03) and total walks drawn (14), seventh in total runs
batted in (29), eighth in on-base percentage (0.429) and runs scored
per game (0.73).
Erikka ended her collegiate career as the McPherson College career
leader in home runs (20), doubles (22), runs batted in (90), and
runs scored (80) had previously been named to the All-KCAC and All-Region
IV first team in both 2006 and 2007.
Katie Sorensen (Sr.
Gunnison, Colo., Oklahoma Baptist, outfielder) ranked third among
the Lady Bulldogs in total hits (32). She tied for ninth in the
KCAC regular season in doubles per game (0.20). Katie received Honorable
Mention All-KCAC honors in 2008.
Kristen Ozbun (Jr.,
Rose Hill, Kan., Rose Hill HS, outfielder) tied for third in the
conference in total triples (1), tied for third in triples per game
(0.03), seventh in doubles per game (0.22), tied for ninth in total
doubles (32), and tied for tenth in slugging percentage (0.500).
She ranked seventh in field percentage (0.978). Ozbun was an Honorable
Mention All-KCAC selection in 2008.
Katie Logan (Fr.,
Clay Center, Kan., Clay Center HS, pitcher/shortstop) led McPherson
in hits (39), doubles (10),
and tied for the team lead
in runs scored (24). She finished the KCAC regular season ranked
third in doubles per game (0.27), tied for third in total triples
(1), fifth in total doubles (33), tied for sixth in triples per
game (0.03), seventh in stolen bases per game (0.27), tied for eighth
in total stolen bases (9), ninth in runs scored per game (0.70),
and tenth in hits per game (1.09). In the field, she was seventh
in assists per game (1.82) and tied for ninth in total assists (60).
On the mound, Logan set a new McPherson College school record for
strike outs in a season (107). She ranked eighth in the KCAC regular
season in earned run average (4.03), held opposing batters to a
second ranked 0.235 batting average, third in total batters struck
out (100) and strike outs per game (5.00), and tied for eighth in
total wins (8).

season in fielding chances per game (6.23), tied for second in putouts
per game (5.27), fourth in total put-outs (158), fifth in total

Andrea
Falk (Fr., Cheyenne,
Wyo., Cheyenne Central HS, pitcher/second baseman) finished the
KCAC regular season ranked seventh in home runs per game (0.12),
tied for seventh in total home runs (4). On defense, she was eighth
in assists per game (1.76). As a pitcher, Falk ranked seventh in
total batters struck out (69), held opposing batters to a ninth
ranked batting average of 0.279, was ninth in strikes out per game
(3.83), and tied for tenth in total wins (7).
Sadie
Green (Fr., Hutchinson,
Kan., Hutchinson HS, second baseman/shortstop) tied for third during
the conference regular season in total triples (1) and tied for
third in triples per game (0.03).
