Tennis Recap
With squad size up in 2009, the Bulldogs were able to compete with full teams in the majority of their matches this spring. But with the squad made up of seven men and six women there was not much room for illness or scheduling conflicts. Plus, once the lineup order was set, the opportunity for change was limited.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the spring by taking their duel with Central Christian College by a score of 6-3, but the KCAC portion of the schedule was more difficult. Haley Cook, sophomore from Centennial, Colo., led the Ladies with four individual wins during the spring. In the final tournament of the season, Alyssa Baldi came away with the only match win.
The Bulldog men opened the spring with a 6-3 loss to Central Christian before heading into a tough KCAC schedule. Their best opportunity for a win came against Southwestern, but a tie-breaker loss at #3 double was the final blow as McPherson fell 5-4. Freshman Kyle Toland finished the spring with three individual wins while the doubles team of Jordan Rothrock and Nathan Clary picked up two.
With no seniors on the 2008-2009 team, 2009-2010 will see a more experienced Bulldog return, but under new direction as head coach Dan Leddy announced his resignation in order to devote more time to a couple of new business ventures.
