Thinclads compete at Bethany

McPherson College took a limited number of athletes to the Bethany College Open last Saturday.

Two highlights of the meet reported were Tim Cox cruising to a sub-two minute clocking in the 800 meters and Beth Krehbiel high jumping 4’10”.

“This was really a small meet,” said McPherson coach Bart Gray.  “In the half (800m), it was just Tim and one girl, but he still went out and ran sub-two all by himself. That was a great run.   I believe he is ready to drop one if he can get in a race with some other folks ready to run.”

“It was good to see Beth back over 4’10”.  She also ran both hurdles, but the wind was pretty tough.”

This Saturday, the Bulldogs will travel to Emporia for the Emporia State Last Chance Meet.  McPherson will again be taking a limited squad.

“We hope Seth (Cavenee) is ready to run.  We’ll probably go with him in the 200.  Preston (Taylor) will probably go in the 100 and 200.  Tim (Cox) will run the 800, and Deidre (Frager) will go in the javelin.”

“We really need to get most of those folks a meet, otherwise is will be four weeks between their last one and nations.”

Starting time for both the track as well as field events at Welch Stadium on the Emporia State University campus will be 3:00 p.m.
