The McPherson College took a limited squad to Manhattan on Saturday for the KSU Open, hosted by Kansas State University.
“We held out several people with some slight injuries and illness, and some with other campus obligations,” said McPherson head coach Bart Gray.
“Preston (Taylor) has qualified (for nationals), so we didn’t want to aggravate his tender leg. A couple of others that we probably would have run have been a little under the weather.”
“This is the time of the season that if we had an indoor conference meet we probably would have taken this weekend off since the conference meet would likely be the weekend before nationals. And, our performances were off. We looked like we were fatigued, a little bit.”
One of our better performances was Bryan Grosbach, who ran 10:04. That took nine seconds off his PR. He continues to run better and better each week.”
“Preston (Taylor) and Seth (Cavenee) will take the next week and a half to prepare for nationals (March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn.)”
The rest of the team will rest or be on maintenance workouts until March 8 when outdoor practices will begin. The Bulldogs first outdoor meet will be March 13 meet at Bethany. The Dogs only home meet this season will be the following weekend, when they host the McPherson Invitational on March 20.
