Tracksters at NAIA national championships

The 2004 track & field season came to an end last week as three Bulldog athletes competed at the NAIA National Outdoor championships in Louisville, Kentucky.

Preston Taylor was the only Bulldog to advance beyond the first round of competition as he advanced to the second round of the national championships in the 200 meters dash Thursday afternoon.  Taylor’s time of 22.44 advanced him to the semifinal round of competition, which was contested on Saturday.  His time of 22.44 placed him 16th among the 18 semi-final qualifiers.  This was also his slowest competitive run since the McPherson Open on March 20.

On Saturday, came back to run 22.33 in the semifinals which placed him 15th.   That placing failed to advance him to the finals held later Saturday.

Earlier Thursday afternoon, Deidre Frager, the Bulldogs’ only female entry, threw the javelin 124’10”.  That distance marked her second best throw of the season, and placed her 17th among the 31 entries in the women’s javelin throw.  Frager’s throw in Louisville also marked the second time in 2004 she surpassed the 120-foot mark.

Prior to Taylor’s 200-meter trials race on Thursday, Taylor and Seth Cavenee ran in the 100 meters preliminary heats.  Their respective times of 10.97 and 11.11 to place sixth and seventh failed to qualify either for the semi-final round.
