The Bulldogs took a partial squad to Winfield on Saturday for the Southwestern Relays in final preparation for next weekend's KCAC championships. With the men sprinters at Drake, the Bulldog men were represented Saturday in just the field events, while the women had the majority of its squad available, although the college musical did keep a couple home.
Beth Krehbiel was McPherson’s lone double-medalist, placing third in the 400 meter hurdles in a season best 1:12.38 and sixth in the high jump.
“Beth ran pretty well in the hurdles,” said Gray. “That mark should move her in to the top three or four in the conference.”
Other medallists among the Lady Bulldogs were Geralyn Hale, fourth in the 100 meters, Deidre Frager, fifth in the javelin, and Bethany Lobmeyer, seventh in the 5,000 meters.
While not placing in the 200 meters, Hale did establish a new season best as did Katie Atwater in the hammer throw.
Klayton Keesling, freshman from St. John, Kan., was the only medallist for the Bulldog men. Keesling placed eighth in the pole vault in a season best 12’ 6”. Freddie Nails and Scott Phillips posted season bests in the discus and hammer throw, respectively.
“Klayton has finally had a chance to get on a pole (in a competitive situation) the past couple of weeks. He has a good shot at placing (at the KCAC meet). And, our throwers continue to improve.”
This week the Bulldog thinclads will travel to Winfield on Friday and Saturday for the annual KCAC Championships.
