Tracksters open outdoor season

The Bulldog thinclads opened their 2004 outdoor season Saturday under cool, cloudy, windy, drizzling skies at the Bethany Invitational in Lindsborg.  Joining the Bulldogs

“This was basically, just a chance to get our outdoor season underway, and get a meet under our belts before our invitational this week,” said McPherson head coach Bart Gray.  “The weather was not conducive to any great performances, but most events were competitive.”

“Our young throwers continue to improve and the outdoor events, particularly the discus, should be an area we will be strong in.”

“Geralyn Hale won the women’s 100 meters (13.26) to highlight the day for the women.  While her time wasn’t what it will be on down the road, it was good considering she hasn’t been able to work out for almost a month because of her asthma.”

“Tim Cox and Troy Hernandez made a impressive debut in the 1500 meters running 4:27.5 and 4:29.3.  Tim went from about 14th to 4th in the final 400 meters.”

“Preston (Taylor) ran the 400 meters, and after leading through 300 meters, he struggled home in 51.9.  He’ll be O.K. thouogh.  He came up afterward and said, ‘Coach, I think I need to be running those 800 workouts this week.’”

“This was a good warm up for our Invite on Saturday, but the conditions definitely gave us a good idea about the character of our kids.”

Saturday’s meet at McPherson Stadium will begin with the field events at 10:30 a.m., the men’s 10,000 meters at 11:00, and the other track events beginning at 12 noon.
