Mac spikers defeat Bethany

It may have been Nathalea Stephenson's most satisfying win in her two years as McPherson College women's volleyball coach.

Stephenson's Bulldogs on Saturday sprang an upset on intra-county rival Bethany College, a school where she used to coach.

And it was in straight-games fashion, as the Bulldogs captured 30-27, 31-29 and 30-24 victories.

"I thought since it was Parents Day, the girls would be a little nervous and they were the first game, but they came out and really played hard," Stephenson said. "This is the first time we have beaten a conference team in three games and won on Parents Day. The girls are really doing a nice job of improving each time out and realizing they deserve to win and should expect it every time."

Leaders on the day were Lisa Salazar (13 kills), Erica Alvarez (12 kills), Terra Simoneau (36 assists) and LouAna Nuss 97 kills, 3 aces).

Mac is now 5-11 in conference play and plays Tuesday at Southwestern.
