McPherson College’s volleyball team pushed long-time KCAC power Bethel to the limit here Saturday before losing in five games.
The Bulldogs twice overcame one-game deficits, as Bethel won the first and third games, while Mac won the second and fourth. The Threshers’ wins were 30-23 and 30-22, while the Bulldogs won 30-27 and 30-23.
In the final game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-1 lead and then appeared to go up 5-1, but an official reversed a call and it seemed to give the Threshers momentum. “After that, we just couldn’t get things going,” Mac coach Nathalea Stephenson said.
Stephenson said it still was a good day for her team with a festive atmosphere.
“This was a great day, as the Booster Club hosted a cookout for the parents and family members of the volleyball team,” she said. “We have been having great crowds supporting the volleyball team and the team has been playing better each time out. We aren’t supposed to win games from teams seeded above us, but the girls haven’t noticed that these teams are ranked above them.”
Mac is now 3-3 in the KCAC and 8-5 overall. It hosts Ottawa at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday.
