Miller
and Shay named Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes
Jessica Miller, senior from
St. John, Kan., and Jordan Shay, senior from Healy Kan., were recently
named NAIA/Daktronics volleyball Scholar-Athletes for the 2007 season.
Miller
has been a four-year starter for the Lady Bulldogs. A 2004 graduate
of St. John High School, Jessica is majoring in biology. Miller
was previously named a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete in 2006 and
a member of the academic All-KCAC team as a sophomore and junior.
Miller came off a torn ACL and surgery following the 2006 season
to rank second for the 2007 Lady Bulldogs in kills with 229 and
digs with 315. She was among the Bulldogs' top three in serve percentage
(.949) and serve receiving (.930). As a junior, Miller was named
to the All-KCAC first team.
“Jessica is the first volleyball
player for McPherson College to be a two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete,”
said Stephenson. “The work ethic that Jessica brings to the court
is the same work ethic she exhibits in the class room.”
Shay
joined the Lady Bulldog volleyball program in 2006 after transferring
from Colby Community College. A 2004 graduate of Healy High School,
Jordan was a member of the 2006 academic All-KCAC team. Morgan is
majoring in Journalism.
“Jordan
is a very talented young lady ,” said McPherson College head
coach Nathalea Stephenson. “Her playing
time was limited this year when she found herself fighting for playing
time in a position where we were particularly strong. But, she continued
to bring her best to practice each day, a trait that carries over
in the class room where she is a very good student.”
Recipients of the Daktronics-NAIA
Scholar-Athlete award must have a minimum grade point average of
3.50 on a 4.00 scale, be a junior or above in academic standings,
and been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of
one full school year.

McPherson College sophomore
Kylie Loesch and senior Nikki MacKay were named to the 2007 All-KCAC
(Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference) women's volleyball first
and second teams, respectively, in a vote by the conference's coaches.
“I am happy for Kylie and
Nikki,” said Nathalea Stephenson, McPherson College head volleyball
coach, “they were very deserving of this recognition.”
Kylie
Loesch, a 2006 graduate of Lyons (Kan.) High School, was
named to the All-KCAC first team as an outside hitter.
Loesch ranked fifth in the
KCAC in kills per game, averaging 2.95 while posting 283 total kills
during KCAC regular season play. She was second among the Lady Bulldogs
in service aces and blocks with 25 and 32, respectively. Kylie ranked
third among the Bulldogs in digs with a total of 271.
“We
were very pleased to have Kiley named to the All-KCAC first team,”
said McPherson College head coach Nathalea Stephenson. “She has
worked very hard to improve on all aspects of her game.”
“Kiley spent extra time on
her jump serve and it paid off as she didn't miss a serve in 60
serves in a row. This was three matches and two games of the fourth
one. In addition, she mixed up her hits and caused other teams to
change their defenses because of her.”
Nikki
MacKay, a 2004 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar, Mo., High
School was named to the All-KCAC second team as a liberio for a
third time after being to the All-KCAC first team and “Liberio of
the Year” as a freshman.
MacKay led the Bulldogs and
ranked second in the KCAC during regular season play with 5.88 digs
per game. Her 564 regular season digs also led McPherson and ranked
second among KCAC players. MacKay's 22 ace serves tied for third

all Bulldogs with more than 10 serves received.
Earlier this season, MacKay
was named the KCAC and Region IV “Libero of Week” following the

season, she was recognized by the AVCA for 30-dig performances.
"This year Nikki had
three matches where she had 30 plus digs and was named to the AVCA
30-dig club,” said Stephenson. “She has worked hard at digging the
ball which has allowed for our team to go on the offense. Nikki
will do whatever is necessary to get to the ball and keep it alive.”
“In her two years with us,
she has set records in digs that will be around for a long time.”
Nikki is the daughter of
Stephen and Joanne Mackay of Peculiar, Mo. Nikki is majoring in
