Auto Restoration Institute FAQ

General Schedule
Our first meeting will be at 8:30 Monday morning in Templeton Hall (see campus map, building 17). If you are eating on campus, breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 8:15, beginning Monday morning. Classes will run from 8:30-12:00am and 1:00-4:30pm (some classes may deviate slightly as necessary). We are usually done by 1:00pm on Friday to accommodate travel plans.

Arrival and Departure Suggestions
It would be best to arrive in McPherson on the Sunday night before your session starts. For those who are staying on campus, someone will be here to check you into Bittinger Hall (see campus map, building 20) from 5:00 until 9:00pm. At the end of the week, you are welcome to depart on Friday or Saturday, whichever day works out best for you.

When you register, we will send you an invoice, which is payable upon receipt. On May 4, any participants with unpaid invoices will be removed from the course lists to free up room for others that are interested.

Make or Break Cutoff Date
The cutoff for our decision to offer a class or not, will be made in mid May.  We need five people in a class for it to "make".  If a class does not make, you could either get a full refund for the class or transfer it to another class.  I will contact folks who are in classes that have low numbers a little earlier than the cutoff though.

Room & Board
Room and board includes three meals per day (Monday thru Thursday, Fri is lunch and dinner).  The meals are prepared by our food service and the only complaints that we hear is that there is too much food (like a cruise ship I guess).

Air Travel
Most people fly into Wichita Mid Continent Airport (about 45 min. south of McPherson); KC is usually cheaper, but it is about a three hour drive.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: For the Engine overhaul workshop, what type(s) of engines are used (pre-war, post-war, I6, V8, etc)?
A: The engine overhaul class uses 350 Chevy's.  They are inexpensive, easy to obtain and have a resale market.  Plus, we need all the engines to be of the same type because the engines torn down one year are machined and used the next year for the assembly portion (the second half) of the class.

Q: For the Carb/Ignition Systems class, what types of carburetors are covered (SUs, Weber, Holley, etc.)
A: In carb./ing./tune up, we cover almost every type of carb, most ignition types, etc.  It is really designed to be pretty broad.
