The
Center for Religion and Science is open Monday through
Friday, from 7:00am until 10:00pm, whenever McPherson College
is in session. All of the Center’s resources are available
to the public during those hours.
CRS History:
Since
opening in August of 2001, the McPherson College Center for
Religion and Science (CRS) has worked to fulfill its mission
of "promoting Community, theological Reflection, and interdisciplinary
Scholarship by providing Communication, current Resources, and
hospitable Surroundings." Located in Room 209 of Melhorn Science
Hall on the McPherson College campus, the CRS is the product
of the cooperation and vision of McPherson College administration
and faculty and the McPherson Ministerial Alliance. Dr. Jonathan
Frye (Chair, Division of Science & Technology) directs the programs
of the CRS. McPherson College has supported the Center's endeavors
from the start by making space available in Melhorn
Science Hall. The CRS now offers several hundred books, periodicals,
and video materials, and a fine selection of free coffee and
teas in an inviting atmosphere conducive to reading, reflection
and quiet conversation.
Funding
Sources :
McPherson
College established the Center for Religion and Science in 2001
with the support of a grant from the Rhodes Consultation on
the Future of Church-Related Colleges and the gift of anonymous
donor. The Center attracted additional funding in 2002 from
the Metanexus
Institute on Religion and Science's Local Societies Initiative
program. This three-year grant provided ongoing support
to the Center and its programs. McPherson College provided matching
funds to the Center as a part of that grant. The gifts of an anonymous donor presently sustain the CRS.
