Kim Stanley EDUCATION
Dr. Stanley was elected Professor of the Year by Who's Who students in 1992 and 1997, in which year she also won the Public Scholar award from Kansas Humanities Council. She won the Dean's Teaching Award during her stay at the University of Texas. Dr. Stanley has a varied academic background, with a B.A. in English and Spanish from Trinity University in San Antonio, an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John's College in Sante Fe, and a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Texas. Her interests range from English Renaissance theatre to African-American Women's literature. Dr. Stanley is particularly interested in ways in which literature can affect people's lives and beliefs, and in using literature to help people talk about values. For that reason, she has served for ten years as a book discussion leader for the Kansas Humanities Council. This interest has also brought her to work with using stories to teach hospice values (for KHC) and to lead book discussions in a state prison, in association with Spanish Prof. Ocie Kilgus. Dr. Stanley has been married for 20 years to Dr. Thomas Halliburton, who teaches linguistics and advanced grammar courses for McPherson College. |
